    first turned dish

having borrowed a lathe for a couple of weeks, this is the fourth thing I have turned and the first attempt at faceplate turning... made from olive ash, there was a flaw in the wood which meant I lost a bit of height, so this became a dish rather than bowl... not sure what we will use it for but...

    Lathe purchase ideas...

I am hoping to get a lathe later this year (present) and am slightly uncertain as to best option... 2 contenders are: Axminster AC370 RP Coronet Herald the Axminster has a longer spindle length at 1100mm but the Herald is over 900mm with the extension and I don’t foresee that being an issue...

    Found benchtop planer or similar

I am after a benchtop planer or similar, I have a Triton thicknesser and the workshop doesn't have huge amounts of room, so a free-standing one may be tricky to fit in... preferably within easy reach of NW Bristol, or able to be couriered... let me know if you have one you are not using... wooden toy blocks

So, one reason I want to play with wood is to make things for our assorted nieces / nephews / god-children / etc. - we live just by one of the bigger out-door spaces in Bristol and so people walk their children there and pop in (covid regulations allowing of course!) so, my first task has been...

    Removing rust

I have been donated a pillar drill by a friend, which has been sitting in a garage and has some surface rust... what is the best method of removing the rust, and in particular, what finish shoud I have on the table? I have hammerite paint which I can use to refresh the painted bits but am...

    Work lighting

As the years march on, I seem to need a bit more light to focus on what I am doing... Having moved house earlier this year, we are yet to fully sort out the lights in the garage (aka workshop type place), so for the short term I looked online and bought some simple Kitchen under-cupboard...

    Hello & Question

Firstly - a introduction... Having moved earlier this year to a property which has a garage and carport and a largish garden (in which we may at some point build further sheds!), I have decided to finally do something about my desire to work with wood. I have wanted to do this for many years...
