    Wood Gloat

My wood seems better if split on the pith, less checks but see what blister says as he has being doing it an awful lot longer from a wood turning point of view.

How can I save this piece

Been back on the lathe for a short while, the most upper piece is now a ball which is what originally intended but was to scared :D Quite pleased with my first ball job  The next part down got reduced in size, probably still a little large but during the reduction I accidentally...

    Wood Gloat

Nice blag  The large one, Maybe cut 20" log off of the bottom and quarter it down the length to have four pieces of quarter sawn for end grain hollowing. The remaining upper part, slit down the length though the pith to get two half's for bowl blanks. This should leave a little extra...

    Dust Extractor Choice

My first vac was the Lidle and I found the filter passed way too much fine dust back out of its exhaust and also blocked quickly, Things were much better with a Record power unit

    eucalyptus burl [burr] bowl

Beautiful piece Hugh, just what I aspire to. What did you use to carve with ? It looks like a difficult pattern to keep in symmetry. Tony

How can I save this piece

Thanks Adam, it is suprising how fast you can get up this learning curve from step zero and start producing quite moderate pieces. Its just this last step ten thats the hard part (hammer) Its not going to be used for anything unfortunatly or maybe fortunatly :D It is just a stab at a...

How can I save this piece

Hi Nev Thanks, my finish came on leaps and bounds since getting hold of the Chestnut mops, this is just 80-400 grit and all three mops and compounds, no sander sealer as the wood was quite hard. Tony

How can I save this piece

Good advice and yes the top is just too heavy. I can see the form on the front of the book, in fact I also had the book for christmas and took the simple form from the middle of the book as inspiration but lost the plot along the way  I can say that putting just the base of the urn...

How can I save this piece

Thanks for the advice John Better picture of the top Looks like a nasty graze on the middle facet but its not visable with the eye, I think it may be how the flash reacts.

How can I save this piece

First time with this type of form. I turned the lower part to try and get some classical lines, not sure if I succeeded as it seems a little short in the main body or is it too wide? but I was please with the foot detail. The lid I think is a disaster and far too heavy for the vessel, I had...

Completed ................ Urn ( For criteque and comments )

A great step by step, superb for us novices, thanks. Nice texture, I can only do bark effect so far. I have to little experience to comment on the form just yet, needs to be off the chuck for me to see it:lol: Will be interested to see were you go with the foot once its hollowed. Now that...

    Something new

Very nice piece Paul Great contrast, some added sale value there. Looks stunning with African black wood also. Something I have had my mind on for a while, planned to smelt on the cooker when she is out :D But struggled to find a supply of Pewter at the right price and planned to do the car...
