    What cost for European Ash

Thanks - that piece is yew, and was an accidental find in Axminster tools in High Wycombe when I was in there for something unrelated. I couldn't pass it up. Much more interesting than just plain timber.

    What cost for European Ash

I've used Sykes a few times, and I've found them to be excellent - I'd be disappointed if this was them. Their timber is a little pricier than elsewhere, I've found, but the quality is very good and has left me with far less waste than on timber I've had elsewhere. They're also a little more...

Right then. Needed a way to tidy up the front porch and have somewhere to sit and put on boots. One sheet of birch ply, lots of nails, glue snd a chunk of English oak, and a healthy dose of advice from @danish a few clear days away from homeschooling.

    Smart home display stopped working

We considered the Andersen (it’s beautiful, and the ability to hide the cable inside the unit really helps too), but at the time the solar integration wasn’t working and Andersen didn’t have a timeframe for it to be working - don’t know if they have fixed it yet. We bought the black Zappi and i...

    Smart home display stopped working

I had a smart meter installed by octopus, and it did take a few weeks after commissioning to sort itself out (goodness knows why it takes so long), but my IHD has started misbehaving over the last couple of months. It regularly shows no consumption at all. If you’re moving to octopus go or...

So Danish, what is the carcass made of? Is that effectively a home-made ply out of Oak? Did you make it yourself?

In the market for a planer / thicknesser bur budget upto £700 ish

I have the Axminster AH106PT and its a decent machine. It's a bit fiddly, and isn't the most precise machine over very long timbers (I found that boards over 2m are a little bananary... Having said that though, it's very good for smaller timbers. It leaves a half decent surface if you take it...

Sold Axminster Folding Router Table Kit

Hi Paul Yes, you can shim the outfeed table. It’s got plenty of space - no shims supplied though. I did drill two holes in the plate, snd there are the three predrilled holes still there. Plenty of room for more holes though. I’m in Birmingham. B27 Let me know if you have any more...

Axminster / UJK Router Table Insert Rings 3D Printed

Interesting - my Rutlands ones are 98mm... they don’t appear to be the current size. Perhaps you could take a look at the back of this and see if you think they’ll match? Thickness is 7mm

Axminster / UJK Router Table Insert Rings 3D Printed

I have a Rutlands router insert in an old size and they don’t sell the inserts any more - I don’t suppose I could commission you to make me a set that would fit mine, do you?

Planer Thicknesser, Bandsaw and Lathe purchase advice

My 14bx arrived this morning from Grovewood Machines in Basingstoke. Very good and friendly service and a better price that I found elsewhere. Haven't cut anything yet, but most of the setup is done. Lovely machine and looks great next to my Laguna table saw

Planer Thicknesser, Bandsaw and Lathe purchase advice

Re bandsaws - I’m on the hunt too. Stock is a bit of a challenge everywhere. The Laguna 14bx and 14/12 are at the top of my list (need to resaw to about 300mm) and the Record Sabre 450 is up there too... But stock is the issue. Can’t find any of those in stock anywhere.

    Laguna 14BX - First impressions

This bandsaw is on my shopping list. Looking forward to your full impressions once you’ve had chance. I’m particularly interested in cutting veneers, so ripping capability on thick timber is crucial for me.

    Union jubilee

I had the same problem when I inherited a jubilee earlier this year. I have a 1” x 10tpi thread. I bought an adapter from Charnwood that makes the thread M33 x 3.5mm and then put an Axminster SK114 chuck on it. Charnwood are currently out of stock, but these guys have one...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

The missus made me promise to make her a box for her sparkly things. This is what I came up with. Saw cut veneers on the lid and base that were left over from our coffee table, and the rest was left over from something I can’t even remember making over the last year. Hinges from Ian...

Right then. Christmas presents for the kids complete. I have wanted to make an anarchist’s tool chest Schwartz style, but I don’t have room in my workshop for one. The kids needed toy chests though, so I thought I would build them one each, and make them so that they can be converted at a later...
