Andrew Hall online demo tonight (26 November)

I don't know Doug; he's certainly going to be talking about the Blues Bowls, it wouldn't surprise me but I make no promises!

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

An interesting idea Brian, and this has made me think about options for demos. I'd need to speak to demonstrators as well. So, a quick straw poll...think about the cost of buying a DVD etc, and the charges for other on-line demos... If we found a system for making the demos available AFTER...

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

Thanks Richard. When we've got a few more demos under our belt (we've got them booked up to May next year so far!) we'll look into options. I'll pass on your comments to Richard!

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

'transatlantic' has got it in one, and thanks for understanding. Demonstrators like Richard have had a huge chunk of their income taken away from them by not being able to give demos at clubs and various shows. Some have invested in the equipment needed to give online demos (and that's not...

    Sanding sealer

It can never hurt to put a sealer on first, but if you're planning to use a primer anyway the difference in the end result will be minimal.
  11. Terry Smart

    Sanding sealer

That's not really helpful as there are many different waxes commonly available, often designed to do different things. So, here's the very long answer... Properly applied, and undiluted, a sealer does everything it's meant to do (as above) and prepares the timber ready for the next coating...

    Sanding sealer

@Droogs , not really; an etch primer is usually used on metal work (dragging myself back to my days in the paintmaking world) to help a coating adhere; in base terms it burns itself into the metal to stick, and the paint etc is then, in turn, able to stick to the primer. A high build primer will...

    Sanding sealer

In relation to what? 'Wax' is a very general term, I don't want this to become an advert for the various waxes we supply...

    Sanding sealer

What Doug said. Sanding Sealer is exactly that, a sealer, or a primer if you want to be crude (it does much more than a sealer). The coating that goes on after it is the finish, sealer is not and has never been meant to be a finish in its own right.

    Sanding sealer

Time was, I'd have said that nobody even loosely connected to the finishes industry would have said something so ridiculous...but nowadays there are too many people selling and promoting finishes who have had no formal training nor do they fully understand how coatings work and why. Sanding...

    Abrasive paste

So, as Phil says, Microcrystalline Wax does not have an abrasive in it. In fact, the only thing the three products mentioned have in common is that they have wax in them. Lonsdale probably meant to ask about our Cut'n'Polish, which is a wax with an abrasive held in suspension within. It will...

    cellulose thinners

...and without a certificate any claim to toy safety is worthless. (Slightly off topic I know, but worth mentioning).

    cellulose thinners

You're saying your work is second class?? :) (I'm sure it isn't really) There's no such thing as 'Standard Cellulose Thinners', each brand will vary, sometimes considerably. Gun Cleaner is meant to be used exactly for that, to clean spray guns. It can contain dregs and recycled solvent and...

    Chestnut’s Woodturning Weekender

Chestnuts weekend 2020 - anyone going from here?

Looking forward to seeing you both there (and hopefully a few more!). There's be plenty of opportunity for a pint and a chat both at the Looong Weekender (the very informal Friday evening get-together) and also the Saturday 'Pub Quiz' (not being held in a pub so not really a pub quiz!) You might...
