Not something I`ve used, myself, though I did look into it at one time. There is plenty of information to be found online about it. It would be cheap and fairly easy to do, though, and easy enough to reverse if it doesn`t do anything to solve your problem.

It`s not that it`s necessarily any more dusty than other woods, just that, as you suggest, it shows up more! It does mellow to a nice, rich dark brownish red colour though.

You could try Ikea for lights. I`ve bought anglepoise-type and small adjustable LED lights from there, to illuminate my turning. Various styles to choose from and cheap enough to get covered in dust!

Maybe your lathe`s design would allow you to slide the headstock to the tail end, remove the tailstock, and rig up a temporary toolrest so you can work off the end of the lathe?

I remember him well from my visits to Harrogate. His demonstrations were always so methodical and clear and his explanations so precise. I have an old video of his, from years ago, where the same qualities shone through. A very nice man and an excellent teacher.

Looks nicely turned and finished! You`ve made a good job of getting the plates smooth and flat, so will be easy to clean. My only suggestion would be perhaps to have made the central supports a little slimmer and simpler in shape, to match the simple, smooth look of the plates more closely
