    Shelving in alcove

Guys Thank you for all your advice, I think I am going to give it a try, I like the idea of completely hiding the baton, although I think I want as much meat on top as possible, though I will give it some thought. Thanks Again Nick

    Shelving in alcove

I am looking to fit a series of solid oak shelves into an small alcove, and would like to try and minimise the visibility of the battons that will support the shelves. I was thinking about routing a recess in the under side of each edge in which the battons would sit making their appearence...

Any idea what wood this is made from?

I have been given an old wooden canoe in need of restoration, there is some planking that is going to need replacing, so I am trying to work out what wood it is constructed from I was told it was mahogany, but I am fairly sure that it isn't I am guessing it is some form of cedar. Any ideas?

    Holiday in Norfolk

If you like National Trust properties, then I would definitely recommend Blickling Hall or Felbrig Hall http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/blickling-estate/ http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/felbrigg-hall/ In terms of places for tools, there are a few shops in Holt that normally have a few Old...

A question for the luthiers out there....

Kalimna that's the decision I came to when planning a native timber build, so I decided to allow myself to use a Euro Spruce soundboard, but all other materials should be locally sourced. I am documenting this build elsewhere on the Official Luthiers Forum, but if people would like I can start...

A question for the luthiers out there....

Not sure about bog oak being corrosive, I know it has been used by Brook guitars and is available to buy as fretboard blanks @ timberline (or so i have been told I sourced mine as a blank elsewhere) so fingers crossed it will be ok, i'm going to give it a try and see what happens. I guess using...

A question for the luthiers out there....

I'm currently starting an acoustic build using native timbers as much as possible, though have given in and gone for Euro spruce for the soundboard. I've chosen cherry for back and sides, sycamore for neck, and bog oak for fretboard and bridge. Would be very interested if you manage to find...

    Norfolk

Where about's in Norfolk are you going to be / do you have any particular interests? I would consider a day trip (or half day) on the broads, you can rent a day boat for about £60 per day personally I cant think of a much better way to spend a day (if the suns shining).

    Waterproof/Breathable Membrane

I was concerned about that but, the manufacture's website states that that it is suitable for roofs and timber frames. http://www.permavent.co.uk/permavent-eco/ See bottom of page Though I am sure Tyvek is a superior product for those on a more limited budget, it may be worth a consideration.
