Considering dipping toe into 3d printing so what do you think of this one?

+1 to Bambu Lab printers. I've had a Creality CR-10 for 7 years and hardly used it as there were always problems with the print or the printer. Permanent tinkering and fixing. I've a P1S now, works flawlessly every time. Really good print quality and hardly a failed print

Love it when people use ebay's AI to generate item descriptions. Some of the best ones so far:

    Sawstop demo and thoughts

Might be relevant: I own the Festool TKS 80 (also saw stop). It’s a fairly small motor for a table saw connected to the blade via belt. I assume the belt is there to protect the motor from the harsh stop in case the saw stop kicks in blocking your saw blade. The noise level/sound of the saw is...

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

First piece on the lathe. Needed a dowel to hang up the advent calendar. Made of a piece of ash off cut. Loads of room for improvement, obviously. Noticed the importance of sharp chisels (or how quickly they get dull) but also had a lot of vibration on the piece when turning in the middle...

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Good morning, I received the replacement keylock from Axminster over the weekend. The dog point was slightly too big for the keyway, though. It only fit at the end of the keyway where the old keylock screw was never able to apply pressure. So did some closer looking and found a slight burr on...

Buying a fully electric used car

Which? did some research on battery degradation, you can read it here https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/the-truth-about-electric-car-battery-degradation-apYqu1y6IYnr Keep in mind that the data from the older cars refers to older style batteries. Battery life is very much influenced by the...

Buying a fully electric used car

I'm very surprised to hear that - my calculations showed the opposite. Yes, the leasing rate is higher than what I'd get from a dealer, but the leasing rate also includes insurance, which you wouldn't get from the dealer. The insurance price is fixed for the lease period, so no nasty hikes every...

Buying a fully electric used car

Higher insurance on EVs is due to them being way more powerful, so fall into a different category - and due to parts shortages, possible longer wait in cases you need a repair. Those shortages should become better now though, this was mainly a problem due to the COVID/war aftermath.

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Well, I guess this is where one finds the differences between a cheap and an expensive lathe.... I've ordered a replacement keylock with dog nose. I'll inspect fit once I got it. Plenty of good ideas in this thread, thank you so much. Unfortunately I've no metal working friends, but I should...

    Sawstop demo and thoughts

Festool TKS80 is a SawStop equipped saw available in Europe for a few years now. Festool bought SawStop. Took them a while to get that technology certified for the European market. There is a push in the US that any new saw should be equipped with a safety system like SawStop. There was a...

Buying a fully electric used car

As an alternative, can you get an EV via salary sacrifice? Octopus EV now even offers used ones via that scheme. (I think they also offer private leasing now). Advantage is that the leasing rate reduces your taxable income. With octopus, leasing rate also includes insurance, any repairs, tyres...

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Yeah, I expected the lock to be separate as well. I expected a hole for a grub screw or a pin or something. Only thing I could find underneath the tailstock was a rather stiff spider :ROFLMAO: I think the hard use on the keyway is due to the broken/wrong lock key pressing against the edge of...

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Hard to tell, honestly - it doesn't look like the surface I'd expect from a new screw, but that can mean many things... could just be worn from requiring to do a job it was not designed for. Here some more pics from the rest of the tailstock parts:

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Thx for the input! Yes, those align. I'm confident now that the locking screw is missing the 'dog point'. The screw is a M10, 18mm long. Sounds like the Axminster replacement part will fit, so will order that one. Thank you again

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Good morning, I finally managed to get a closer look at an Axminster Performance CCL I bought used a couple of weeks back. While trying it out, i noticed that the tailstock quill was rotating. The quill has a groove which should stop it from turning. But the barrel itself does not have...

    Climate change policy

The UK’s reduction in CO2 is due to phasing out coal as means of heating, replacing it with gas boilers. We are at the same point again now where we are trying to phase out polluting technologies once again ;)

    Climate change policy

Can you provide us with some reputable source on all those claims of the net zero change harming our economy? If you want a synchronised approach, well then you are too late and you will not emerge as a technological leader. Did Tesla wait until all the other car manufacturers were ready to...

    Climate change policy

It’s normal for humans to be scared of change. That’s basic psychology. Some people are better with dealing with change, others don’t do as well. Change is the only constant in our life, regardless of us liking it or not. Best thing to do is see change as an opportunity and chance to...

    Climate change policy

It’s cost for charging (public + at home). I did not include insurance in that number as you pay it regardless of you moving the car. Insurance premium has also depends on many other variables subject to personal circumstances.

    Climate change policy

To bust some of the myths around EV costs: It costs me around 300 pounds to drive 5000 miles. There is no annual maintenance, air filter swap every two years (15 pounds diy job), break fluid every four and changing breaks/tyres when required. Car was not more expensive than a ICE equivalent...
