Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

Btw, of course I'm not looking to build mitred boxes alone. I do, however, love that clean look of such joints. And I want to be able to make them repeatedly and without much fuss or material loss. Of course it's a learning curve and I can't get it right from the start until I learn. Minimising...

Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

I thank you for sharing your hands-on experience. The guillotine I was bringing into this topic is also a Morso. Heard only good things about them but I value the advice I get here, so I ask.

Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

They both make a specific 'whoosh'. Bit yes, I love that of a plane. Another good argument. I thank you for the advices. A 5/8" arbor is no issue, I'm using the dewalt 7492. That dado set looks great! This is a complex matter. For one, the thing is that there are but a few box makers in my...

Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

Apologiea for yhe late replies. I'm on holiday and the reception is mostly absent. @paulrbarnard - Thank you for the blunt point of view. I'm still a novice even if I've been learning for circa 3 years. And it's only recently that I started to learn hand planing. It's not that I'm trying to...

Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

Thank you. I specifically mentioned the big size mitre trimmers. The model I'm considering has a cutting capacity of circa 180 x 100 mm, that's roughly 6.7 x 4 inches. And I've seen various information sources with renowed box makers who were using this machine for mitres.

Shooting board versus mitre trimmer for fine boxes

Good day! As the thread name suggests it, I would appreciate some professional opinions from those of you who have used or are using ideally both of these options. I am looking for a long term solution regarding mitred joints. A part of my intended activity is going to be fine box making. I'm...

    Advise on CNC

It's a learning curve. Feel free to ask. In the coming weeks I'll install my KillerBee CNC machine. It's been in the box for ober a year while I struggled to regain mobility. So although brand new, it's a 2 years old model, already obsolete, although the base model, the WorkBee, still is...

    Advise on CNC

There is another option. Have a look at RatRig's Stronghold Pro configurations. They have worked form several years to research and develop great machines. This one is the evolution of the infamous WorkBee. I have their KillerBee which is a supercharged WorkBee on liniar rails. This Stronghold...

Which compressor for air assist? Please recommend

I did not mention enclosure and extraction, true. These coming days I'll finish installing the laser in a dedicated enclosure built according to my possibilities. Afterwards, pictures will come. The enclosure is fitted with an AC Infinity Cloudline Pro T6 150mm/6-inch inline fan. Link here for...

Which compressor for air assist? Please recommend

You use the fan for extraction I presume. Or for assist?

Which compressor for air assist? Please recommend

Good day! I would like to ask all of you chaps that use air assist for laser cutting - what air source do you use? My air assist pump (Neje) doesn't seem to be able to keep up with cutting plywood. From what I could learn out there on the big Internet, opinions are very diffuse. Some would...

    For Sale Loads of tools

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. I too had an uncle who was given circa 6 months to live and he surpassed that estimate by 20 years. And they were 20 good years. Don't loose your faith and best of luck!

Trying to identify small stone carvings

That is actually very plausible. Not sure about the support, that seems to be shaped for the figurines to stand and be displayed. It's the only position in which they are perfectly flat in all contacting points. The design however is possible to be imprinted the way you say. Can be pottery or...

Trying to identify small stone carvings

I thank you for the resources, they are amazing! I know I've seen that support thingie somewhere before but I did a lot of research in my life, just can't put my finger on it.

Trying to identify small stone carvings

Good morning, As the title says it, I'm trying to identify a few small stone carvings. This is for a friend, she got in possession of them and she is a researcher, so would like to identify them from a historical point of view (if any), rather from the financial value point of view. Maybe...

Thank you very much for the info. Yes, from my side styles are seen a bit differently. UK styles are not well known here.

Help identifying a piece of furniture

Your are absolutely right. Seems this variant with leather insert with gold tooling is from the 40's. In rest, wooden parts are beech, the top and the bottom are some sort of ply, good quality though. One question still remains. I understand it's not a period piece, but what style does it...
