Yeah, found out about that heat cracks on my first attempt with yew, spent awhile wondering what the hell the noise was..

Being as the boring is usually the first thing you do when making lamps (well I do any way), there's no reason you couldn't pop over to a neighbouring friendly turner and use their setup to bore the hole. I'm in Ashford/Kent, if anyone needs to do this.

Managed to change the speed using a screwdriver, fairly easy. Hopefully the new blades will turn up soon, then off to make some bandsaw boxes :) Thanks for the help everyone !

Yep thats was the solution I was considering, just wanted to check I wasn't doing something stupid. Yeah tensioning the blade is quite hard, the new blades I've ordered are meant to be easier to do as the metal is thinner, not particularly impressed with the bandsaw, but it was pretty cheap...

As far as I can see the motor is fixed, oddly the booklet implies the drive belt tensioner should be inside the belt not outside, and also shows the belt having a lot more slack. The 310 shows the belt tensioner outside like mine. Very odd.. Wonder if they've put the wrong belt on my machine...

Hi, I've noticed my new bandsaw is actually two speed, not that the documentation mentions this at all. Does anyone know how you actually do this, there doesn't appear to be enough slack on the belt to allow it to be moved, is it a case of removing the lower wheel ? Also is there meant to be...

Yes foam pipe lagging or some such might work, though I think it was the buttons that got me, though it's a bit hard to tell as there are gaps between the sections as well. And also the ends, come to think of it these things are a bleedin health and safety nightmare :)

Yeah chuck key is gonna happen, though I usually start the lathe on slow before spinning up to full speed (variable). So hopefully this one won't catch me out :)

Yeah, I've tried epoxy and CA, sometimes it works, sometimes not, there is just to much slop, I'm drilling on the lathe so it's likely that is enlarging the holes slightly as well. Certainly the tubes are 6.6mm or some such, so even if I get exactly 7mm holes, there will be a fair bit of play...

Hi, been making pens this week, the copper inserts are supposed to be 7mm, but using a 7mm drill bit the tubes are quite sloppy, measuring the tubes shows them to be actually 6.7mm, I'm suspecting these are american sizing so I really should be using a 17/64 inch bit. Does anyone know were to...

Yep thats pretty much the conclusion I can to, they hold the bar true and firmly, might get some of the integrated step jaw/carriers, which would make life a bit easier.

Internal Diameter is 20mm, just checked the C jaws and they do sort of hold it, but there isn't much to hold on to. Might be able to get it working better using the tailstock to center the bar properly.
