    Advice on rotting shed

when we moved into our house, the garage was discovered to have quite a lot of rotten lower wood - due to allowing tree mould to build up behind it - the whole garage was supported on that tree mould, and about 2 inches of crumbly wood :) our chippy jacked up the whole garage and popped in a 2x4...

    Parkside Lathe

just look at some youtube videos of it, apparently it struggles to let you even use sandpaper at slower speeds!

    Cordless tool options (manufacturer)

The Bosch DIY range (green - not the blue pro range) is also a part of a wider battery alliance: https://www.powerforall-alliance.com/en/ Not sure that I am overly bothered by all batteries having to swap - My bosch lawnmower has a different battery, the battery vaccuum cleaner has its own...

Thank you - good confirmation - will have a saw bench for it and it will be put up in an empty space and then put away so shouldn’t matter...

    wooden toy blocks

it is £15 off the saw there, and the package gives a further £20ish off the stand, so about £35 discount... not sure how good a saving that is, I suspect that somewhere there will be a better saving over black friday which is only the end of next week, so probably worth waiting for...

So - using the tools I have and being more deliberate with the bandsaw, slightly over-cutting and then sanding... using one as a template to which the others are sanded- I then get this: much better... Mitre saw is on the shopping list for Black Friday but nice to still improve in use of...

    wooden toy blocks

I think the saw needs to be on the shopping list, but I will also play with Brian's suggestions of manual options... ref. not sticking fingers in - I should be okay as I am fairly cautious - but it would still be a fairly serious step into tools that can hurt! Thank you CHJ - I was aware, and...

    wooden toy blocks

Thank you for the great responses - and esp. Brian for the photo! :) several options there - upside of a chop saw is the excuse to buy another tool - downside is that it has a spinning blade and my wife spends her days fixing fingers ;) a shooting board and the manual option is definitely a...

    wooden toy blocks

So, one reason I want to play with wood is to make things for our assorted nieces / nephews / god-children / etc. - we live just by one of the bigger out-door spaces in Bristol and so people walk their children there and pop in (covid regulations allowing of course!) so, my first task has been...

    Removing rust

Some slow progress... handles have been in citric acid for a few hours and surface rust has come off - hurrah! main drill table has been attacked with various things from wire wool to scotchbrite (both with WD40) and the dremel... now looking much better:

    Removing rust

    Removing rust

I have been donated a pillar drill by a friend, which has been sitting in a garage and has some surface rust... what is the best method of removing the rust, and in particular, what finish shoud I have on the table? I have hammerite paint which I can use to refresh the painted bits but am...
