    Seasoning firewood

I've recently ringed up and split for firewood a large diameter ( circa 14" ) fallen oak branch in my woods. Looked like it had been down for a few decades given the moss growing on it and the punky sap wood. Very pleasantly surprised to find that under the inch or so of wet, punky bark and...

Toolstation new web site - even worse than before?

Yep, agree it's poor, prefer the previous version. An example is that you could previously select stock quantities to show for your local store for a session where you browsed several different products. Now, unless i have missed something, you have to check individually on each product you are...

    Block plane issues

Send it back, try another of the same, and if still poor increase the budget and try another brand would be my suggestion. Sent from my SM-A530F using Tapatalk

    Freesat

Just had a look Geoff, it's listed on the programme guide but looks like no content until 7pm if i'm understanding it correctly, so can't absolutely confirm at the moment. Will try and remember to have another look later ! Sent from my SM-A530F using Tapatalk

    Freesat

Yep, unplugged sky plus box and plugged in the humax freesat box to the same satellite dish cables, and worked straight away, no issues :) There's only a couple of versions on amazon, the 500gb capacity one we got that was about 170pds and the 1tb capacity for a bit more. Can't get the...

    Freesat

New humax box arrived yesterday, decided to swap out the sky hd box straight away even though there's a couple of weeks of the notice period and usage still left (given how little we watch sky stuff anyway). A doddle to set up, and the answer to my own original question, yes, the new freesat...

    Freesat

Yes, have gone onto netflix and cover the whole family, including two grown up kids living elsewhere, for a tenner a month ! Decided just to order the humax box and see if that resolves the missing bbc channels on freesat. If not then i'll need to figure out satellite alignment and other...

    Freesat

Finally got around to dumping Sky, ends later this month, realised we really hadn't watched much actual Sky content last couple of years and it was largely the same old tired content going around in a continuous loop ! Have been looking at the freesat channels which i believe the Sky HD box...

    Resuscitating a chainsaw

I've used aspen for a few years in my chainsaws and garden equipment, shockingly expensive at around £20 for five litres, but good for the reason you mentioned, less bad fumes in use, and allegedly less corrosive on fuel lines and seals.

    Resuscitating a chainsaw

Start by tipping out all the old fuel and filling with fresh mix, take out and check/clean the spark plug, and then spend a bit of time pulling on the starter cord. Even if it still doesn't start you will hopefully be flushing any residual old mix out of the carb. If still not starting then...

    Which fixings for concrete post?

I would make every effort to hinge from the garage wall side, much easier and probably more successful to fasten a timber plate there for weight bearing. Otherwise, some concrete posts are pre-drilled for different fixings and if you are lucky to have one of those you can just bolt through in...

    Cereal bowl

Sorry, didn't explain too well as was dashing off to do something else ! After turning and finish sanding the bowl, and before any surface treatment, run the bowl under the kitchen tap for a second to wet the surface of the wood and then let it dry again. You will find that after it dries that...

    Cereal bowl

I make a few bowls and plates now and again for eating from, popular in bushcrafty circles for use around the campfire it seems :) These ones are from spalted sycamore and quite rustic and characterful, soaked in walnut oil for an hour or so after wetting to raise the grain and lightly sanding...
