Here's my 'lidded box' made from Cherry. It's about 130mm high and 75 mm across (can't measure the exact dimensions as it disappeared on Mother's day ...)
After several attempts (first attempt was in Yew, but it didn't look right, second bit of wood had a hidden void, and the third decided it...
Attempt 1 - see above. It has a lid, but that's about all you could say for it.
Attempt 2 - discovered a nasty void in the wood once I'd got it round - scrapped
Attempt 3 - saw a skew chisel and part of it ran away (very quickly over my left shoulder ....) - scrapped
Attempt 4 - finally...
... exactly the same thing happened to me today. Unfortunately the Dremel (or cheap copy thereof) died over Christmas, so now have a reason to get a (proper) replacement.
This apple is made out of Sycamore and modeled on the Braeburn shown at the end. It was cut from a large cylinder and after the top had been shaped and finished a jam chuck was cut in the remainder of the cylinder and the apple reversed for the bottom to be done. Once completed it was buffed...

Gloucestershire's a big place and I think Paul's down in the deepest darkest forest on the other side of the river. I try to keep away from there as on maps it's still marked as 'There be dragons' :lol:
(There are some good bike tracks though, I think they're mainly around the dragon's nests)
Firstly thanks to the organisers, it's not a fun job and I'm sure many of us take you for granted at times.
