I suspect you will not need to bring any more 'weeds' in. There are usually still some ineresting, indigenous species in the seed bank so just have a deepish dig, turn over the soil & see what comes up. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.
Most whiskies have a very delicate finnishing process desinged to give just the right flavour. Most have already been in an oak barrel of various types...again to give just the right flavour. Putting it in an oak cup will add another level of flavour that you will not be able to control..... it...
Historically folk took a longer view of supplying the trees & timber that would be needed for the future...especially for the construction of naval vessls. In the New Forest around the once thriving ship building centre at Bucklers Hard side branches of oak were frequently pegged into a curve to...
It is def not just a case of getting an act together.
2 large multi-nationals who pay us have sorted it. They used to use British banks & now pay us via Irish banks. Hardly a win for the UK! Other smaller businesses like us do not have the time or money to set up the frequently elaborate...
Even some larger Canadian boats were done this way and look really nice. Some were exported to the UK ...perhaps in the 60s.....they are a pig to repair properly! I used matched molding planes to create new planking.
Doors look god tho.
I am not too sure what experience you have or if you are just swayed by ideology. We have just received today some goods from Holland. There was a quite high minimum order amount as Heron said, & on checking this is because of the additional issues that are now involved in dealing with the UK...
You may find that the oak goes blue/black where it is in contact with the iron. Paint the iron with a metal paint (Hammerite?) to prevent this. There are marine protective oils rather than varnish that can be a better option on the oak.
yes it was a bit blunt Brian but done in haste....sheep to feed.
The words 'novice' & 'thin plys' made me think that PU would not be the best. Some foam and in cool weather can be a bit sluggish. Not easy to clamp in an A4 size. Personally I would go for epoxy. Weigh it out. Make sure the...
Don't use pu glues.....as others have suggested. ...but make sure environment & wood are warm & dry enough. Do not use too much pressure whatever glue you use & put cling film between. Book press would be great for what you are doing if you can borrow, hire or buy one.
Got any clamps? If so ...as others have suggested ... 2 straight bits of wood..one each side as guides & to stop wood splitting as it will then handsaw with a hard point. You will feel better for it...& save you the cost of an electric saw you may never use again....unless you have more fences?
You have been reading the mail again haven't you Roy!
You are making simplistic political points which do not stand up to analysis. It is sad to see an important debate demeened by such ill informed, polarised oppinions....... on both sides. For example shipbuilding was lost for a range of...
Not with good quality hot dipped Krome. BZP deffinitely. The wisdom I was always told by old non-yachty boatbuilders is that the galv acts to wear with the steel/iron. Certaily the good old Galv nails lasted better than copper on a heavy exposed roof....can only say what my relatively limited...
Suggest you do not use Stainless with cast iron unless you sleeve it. Cast will rust more quickly, especially near the sea. Electrolysis.
Also suggest against copper nails in exposed conditions with heavy slates. The movement of the slates wears them. Did a re-roofing job where heavy...
