My god you lot are like an information library!... Well i don't mind tinkering with stuff to be fair. But it has to be a reasonable amount as i love making and designing a lot more. Managed to fo a bit of research on planes. Are there major things to look out for in second hand planes? What grade the blade is. broken parts etc. Might be better to buy new then i know its good out of the box. But price on second hand planes is good. Do the bases bow a lot. And if so are they...

    Hand tools

Thank you for all the information.... I think I'm going to take a bit from each reply and have a good look about. I will probably stick to western planes and try out a mix of saws. The price gap looks to be massive between brands and second hand. I do like Axminster as a company the have always...

    Hand tools

.... Wow thank you for that advice. I guess i relied a lot on power tools. And now i have to use all hand tools. It's quite daunting to be honest. Machines take the skill and art out of wood work a lot. Although i always loved it. I guess it's time to get to the grind and master my own tools...

    Hand tools

I have only used a limited number of hand tools. But when i look at Japanese tools. They are used differently. As you pull a plane more than push. Physically I am in good shape. Just wondered if there was a big enough difference to pay for good second hand or expensive Japanese or lie neilson...

    Table saw,rock,hard place ....... stuck

i like the idea of that set up .......mmmmmm. i definitely can't afford a double and no 3 phase sadly. But two chop saws and guillotine is doable. But it goes back to all my timber is recycled and i need a work horse to plough through rough cutting before the planer. It really is a tough choice...

The glass and mounting boards etc are all well away from dust. Thank you and I will have a look at a dedicated mitre saw...
