Wow this is from a loooong time ago! :)
The pivot was simply a tee nut knocked into the back side of the crib arm (the side that faces the support arm), a machine screw through that from the crib side and passing through a ball race recessed into the support arm and glued in.

When we have to put large UPS's into comms rooms in work, they strengthen the floor using steel box section frames under the specific area. Could you do the same with some 4*2 or whatever depth the insulation is, under just the sections where you know the machines will be? That way you know...
