    Quick Poll

I lined my workshop with osb. It was cheaper and I believe better for the planet. It's made of European softwood waste rather than some exotic Brazilian timber from the other side of the world.

Advice needed : repair walking cane

Of all the suggestions I like this one the most. Drilling out and making good and strong seems risky. It would seem too likely to either be a beggar to get out and end up weakening somewhere else.

What thickness cladding should I use?

Sorry for the slow reply. The boards are live edge both sides and about 300-450mm wide. Much wider than I expected. I think they are 25mm thick boards. Re windows, easy to fix they just screw in to the wooden holes you make. I recommend looking at the details from Mike or others as to how to do...

    scaffold board rubbish

It's not my style of furniture, but at least it is made from low carbon materials, locally made and supporting a British firm. I bet any of that stuff far outlasts anything from IKEA. I bought a cubby box storage thing from IKEA to hide the kids toys. Kallax I think. It's 4 years old and...

What thickness cladding should I use?

Good to hear you are following mike's advice. I followed it and it worked well for me. I would avocate the use of wood. Not only for the ease or building with it but it's also much lower carbon than the Hardie board and won't look carp like pvc would. Here is a picture or mine.

    New hip anybody?

Im from the UK and from my perspective which may well be one of ignorance; the US land of the free always seems to be the land of the free if you can afford it. If you can't afford it then the alternative seems less good than the UK welfare and health system. In the UK the class system still...

    Jigsaw recommendation for skateboard ramp.

I would be super grateful for some advice about jigsaws. I don't really want one as I won't use it much but think I need one to build a skate ramp like this: I don't think I could cut the curves with a hand panel saw. I had a cheapo jigsaw that cost about £15 15 years ago and it recently...

    Mid range/budget chisels

I looked on eBay and could never really tell if they would be pitted and no good and bevel edge ones seem scarce. In the end I bought the 6 pack of narex and a 3mm and 40mm. I have used the 40mm more than I thought I would. I like its large surface area. My mate has the axminster richer ones...

Sharpening chisels for a complete novice

I had a similar stone to the Stanley one and it never got my chisels sharp. I then bought a diamond stone from its and at the same time bought a block of green polishing compound. Amazing difference and made my woodwork much better as the chisels cut rather than tore the wood. My skill level is...

    Looking for a " thingy"

If this is for paid work, would you need to make sure the grommet was earthed? Plastic would be my choice. You could spay it silver or bronze if you really wanted to

Beginner question about cutting work the same

If hand tools are your thing then Paul Sellers is your man. I couldn't saw straight until I watched his videos. I think this is a good one I was so excited when it worked I took a photo. It's not perfect, but it was miles better than before. My other recommendations are sharp saw, marking with...

    Partition Wall Garage

I would definitely box the gap around the big door. Sitting still in an office is a chilly business and drafts are not fun. How often do you anticipate having to service the door motor. If it's once a decade I would box in and then rip the plasterboard out when necessary. I'm no plasterer but...
