    Signing off

My last night with access to a computer in the Uk. I fly to Canada on Thursday. My only trepidation now is dropping the dogs off at the shippers tomorrow. They are both 9 and have never been in kennels. They fly from Brum on Saturday morning. Next time I appear I will be living in Canada...

    Sad times.

Paul I'm very sorry to hear your sad news. As I've always been told 'they're here for a good time, not a long time'. There's not much anyone can say to make you feel better. My thoughts are with you. Cheers Tim

    Pocket Screw and MDF

It won't be much more expensive if you use any standard WBP ply. It'll be a lot more if you use birch ply. All will be more robust than MDF. If its just for drawers, why don't you just use softwood? Cheers Tim

    Pocket Screw and MDF

If you want to keep the weight down and still keep them strong, why don't you use ply? Cheers Tim

    Fitted wordrobes

Is it an upstairs room? If so, then there won't be a damp problem - rising damp normally only gets to about 3 feet from ground level. Personally I always back my furniture. It makes it much easier to make and square up, plus it keeps dust down esp if the wall isn't in great condition. Cheers...

    Table mad!

I got back from our house hunting trip on 14 July. SInce then I have been sorting out the house for the move to Canada and trying to use up my timber stocks since I can't take sawn timber with me. The movers come in on Monday so my time is up..... Pics aren't great - it was dark when I took...

    Fire prevention!!!!

I have one powder extinguisher. If a fire is big enough that that doesn't see to it, then sod the tools and the workshop - you can always get more. Best get out at that point and dial 999. A neighbour up the road had his house burn down within 20 minutes after an electrical fault set light to...

Danish oil on worktops - it's wearing off after a week or so

Oddly, I've had this happen to me on my kitchen beech worktop recently. I realised that part of the problem was not letting each coat go off enough ie I was applying coats when it was dry but clearly hadn't cured enough. I assume that when I applied the next coat it was chemically becoming...

Backing up data - which storage system

So do you guys think that backing up to external hard drives should be fine ie unlikely to be an electrical issue? T

Backing up data - which storage system

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in my request. My move is abroad to Canada. I already have external hard drives which I back up to - its a belt and braces solution in case I'm unlucky and the use of transformer/ change in power supply causes a drive problem. Thanks Tim

Backing up data - which storage system

The move is fast approaching and I am trying to sort out things as I think of them. I have a backed up copy of my files on an external hard drive but would also like a belt and braces option. I am thinking of this third back up for the main essential files - which probably amount to 4 or 5...
