    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

So, looked up greenheart. It does look quite a bit like that, only thing that threw a bit of doubt was the wood database entry that said “no characteristic odour”. This stuff definitely has an odour. Smells quite strange, especially when cut.

    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

It’s quite a bit darker than that, even though the colour varies quite significantly....

    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

I’ve also just put a coat of danish oil on it (after wiping down numerous times with white spirit to clear a little bit of the oil out). Looks like this:

    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

Not sure how to describe the smell when you cut it.....but yes I think you could call it sweet. It’s quite pungent.

    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

So, found this stuff in a reclamation yard. It’s very heavy, very dense, feels oily and when cut almost looks green for a couple of days. Anyone got any clue what it is? I’ll try and put photos of all of the different coloured bits in, might help with identification.

    Track Saw

I’m a site carpenter and have used all the major brand track saws, many of which are quite serviceable tools. About a year ago I bought the festool ts-55 and like the other festool kit that I own, I found it out-performs other tools on the market: the ease, comfort and accuracy of it stand out...

    Plunge Router buying advice please.

...in fact, to put it succinctly; I’ve never regretted spending more on a tool but I regularly regret spending less.

    Plunge Router buying advice please.

I second what sometime-worker said. I know this is nowhere near budget but I bought a festool 1/2 router a couple of years ago and it’s worth every penny. Absolutely would never go back on any of the festool tools I’ve ever bought.

Looking for an accurate drill press

    I’ve got drill press envy.

Looking for an accurate drill press

I was searching for a old bench top drill press recently and people seem to have caught on that the old machines really hold their value. I was searching for months and didn’t see a fobco or meddings for less than about £550 in good condition.

    Air sanders

I got the festool rotex six inch thingy recently. I absolutely love it. Couldn’t imagine wanting to move to air after using that sander!
