After to long finally got out to the lathe. Friend at work is leaving so I've made them this Okoume dish/shallow bowl. It was meant to be a fruit bowl but the edge got a little thin and a chunk decided to fly off 😞 so as they say the wood decides the final shape 🤣.

Just picked up some Okoume blanks. Large square is 16x11.5 inches smaller ones are 11x9 and the spindle blanks are 3.75x12 and x9. All for £20. Result. Just got to see what it turns like now. They do feel heavy so I'm hoping my little AC305WL will cope. Cut the corners off to make it fit.

Esqy, Like you I've watched endless videos on the tube. I've found Glen Teagle my go to guy for carbide turning. He makes and sells his own tools and has videos on each one and what you can and can't do with them ( which is everything with a trad tool you can do with a carbide). As for the belt...

I do on some. I've got some picture wire I had laying around attached to some handles. Gets hot though 🤣🔥

Not sure how the Dr diagnosed my bout of gout as all he did was look at me and said "you've got gout"🤷. Perhaps it's because I'm a little rotund. Not had it again

I've had some shocking days where everything I've touched goes wrong. I call them my "ahhh F*** it" days and the wife calls them her entertainment as she can hear me swearing away 🤣. But when it goes right the smile lasts for a long time 😁

Some advice please. Started turning some Cedar and noticed this split opening up. Now should I bin it, rough turn the inside and CA glue or wood hardener.
