    Another damp WS thread

Hi All I can say that my sump/drain was very successful yesterday. If it doesnt flood on a day like that then it never will. Very heavy rain most of the day here with saturated ground and my pump was running every 5 mins or so. All I need to do for the time being is improve the drainage route...

Couldnt have said it better myself. Rob, you have my deepest sympathy you really do. Looks like its spreading at the moment! Ive been out in the rain since 9:00pm checking me sump pump works as it should before the real rain arrives tomorrow morning. Workshop floors still bloody wet :roll...

I'd agree with Roy here. I'd also add the reason I went for a drain inspection lid (with holes drilled in) is you have easy access. I can check on it easily and chuck a pressure washer down there to swill it out if I have to, or remove the pump. However hessian carpet or similar isnt going to...

Hi all Yesterday I finished the sump/drain by making the hole bigger and lining it with limestone gravel, cheapest gravel I could find large enough not to clog up easily. I also fitted my guttering and large water butt at the end of the WS. I need to make an overflow for the water storage butt...

Hi chaps Roy, the submersible pump that im using at the moment is from Aldi apparently, I only had a spare pond pump which is no good for this function unless I can auto switch that? My neighbour paid £25 for it from Aldi, bargain! At the moment, I have 5m of 1" flexible hose and two lengths...

Hi everyone Well after much consideration and no such luck finding a soakaway where I thought there may be one, I decided to make a sump/drain. Bearing in mind this is a temporary fix until I can sort proper drainage out and dig up my patio. It was important to get this done today with yet...

Yes I think a land drain could be an option. Boys Im never moving again!!! thats for sure  One of the reasons for being pretty skint right now is we sold two houses to buy this one and one of them has fallen through 3 times but has sold again and (everything crossed) should go through in...

I forgot to add. Swindon is clay, My last garden, when I dug out 4 ft down for the pond only 8" was top soil and it was clay there in which I guess is why Im seeing this surface water, it just can't drain away fast enough. The house is 1930s and as far as I was aware it all runs into one but I...

Hi everyone and thanks for all your suggestions. Just to clarify:- 1.
