From the sizes you state you could buy turning spindles ..... look at stiles and bates or handles, but would have thought spindle blanks would be more expensive

OK thanks for that the magnets sounds like a good idea, hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of using sanding sealer on the ends of the boards, will that help stop moisture pickup and therefore warping? I could also get moisture resistant mdf, but probably much more expensive John
