Kitchen shelf design - strong enough ?

...and the shelves I made from the 7cm wide remaining pieces of the kitchen cupboard doors, plus a photo of the original shelves under a heavy kilner jar load, still reckon I could hang off it... but won't :) I attached the shelves with a long french cleat top and bottom, which gives the...

    Alternative search mechanism

Same here, just spotted and disabled the google search api. Amen to that, once you get these addons going it's amazing to see how many trackers are watching what you do online, even on government sites and other places where you have to go to do normal life business so it's Firefox, Duck Duck...

    Metric only tape measures

Interesting point, I bet if I went back it'd say '2/3rds pint' somewhere, it's a huge board behind the bar, maybe 3m long and 2 tall with a couple of dozen beers and ciders listed. They'll presumably have slipped a little note in somewhere but the main content in big letters is just beer name...

Making a graduated slot in maple

Tried to add a photo twice but it disappeared... tried to edit the message to say so but can't find the edit button, the 'report this message' button is right where edit should be, suffice to say they look fine, just fine...

Making a graduated slot in maple

Confession time, I got lazy and just took out a slot with the table saw and forstnered a smaller hole at the bottom of the big one, no slope, no sanding, bit of tung oil and it's fine... just fine.. doesn't bother me, I could use them like that forever and it'd not bug me.. not at all... aaagh !!!!

    Currys/PCworld

They are awful aren't they, they seem to have stopped emailing me having not bought anything from them for a month or two.

    Currys/PCworld

But that just perpetuates the problem and normalises it so the next generation will give over their email without thinking because we did, and then their fingerprint when asked, small incerements towards oblivion... to over-egg it slightly :) - stick to your guns, refuse to give them one !

    New Forum Layout

1/3rd of mine was a big blue banner telling me I have adblock installed, then I right clicked and told it to block everything in the div called 'adblock', now I have spare space on the right. I appreciate that the forum is free, and people work to maintain it, and somebody pays for the hosting...

    Metric only tape measures

Yeah, you'd think so but... I went to a modern bar the other day, one that used to be a nice pub but was done up with the usual process of remove all personality, add small square tabkes and dining chairs in regimented columns, chuck a leather chair or two in the corners and switch the food menu...

    Currys/PCworld

Quite, 'Would you like your receipt emailed to you ?' is the usual question, and it would be handy but of course it'll be abused and sold on; I just take photos of important reciepts, guess everyone does that. I've had places like Currys be very insistent about addresses even for minor...

Making a graduated slot in maple

D'oh yes of course, make the jig sloped, that sounds better then it can all be solid on the bench without uneven glue / possibility of slipping, thanks. I'm reluctant to get all Huck Finn on it, there's no need for it to be perfect but I've never hand carved anything since a few rough catapults...

Making a graduated slot in maple

Happy new year all, I switched over from roll-ups to a pipe over the New Year; so apart from becoming 30% more debonair and reallocating a lot of air tight jars from foodstuffs to tobacco, I'm also wanting to make some pipe furniture like a stand or three to store them on and a few coffee table...

Do you know what going on inside?

If you can get at the big heat sink that'll be under the fan on the main board itself, there'll likely be a load of fluff in there gumming up the air flow something awful and won't be sucked/blown easily. Removing the fan is simple, probably plastic twisty things attaching it and it won't detach...
