Request for a beeswax finish recipe

I use beeswax on turned bowls as it's foodsafe and go with a mix of mineral oil and beeswax. Not too sure about exact quantity as the beeswax I'm using is like a bar of soap. Make it in a bain marie as suggested above. Have mixed some carnauba wax in which gives a pleasant smell. The beeswax I'm...

Personalised markings for items you have made

Jim, that's a smart looking bowl, what's the wood? How does the stamp work with really hard wood, or does a firm single blow do the trick? Shan

Personalised markings for items you have made

As I'm mainly marking turned bowls, I burn 9 dots with the middle one centred with a soldering iron. Then join up the dots to make an M.

    Fluting/routing jig advice please?

Ok. Finally got my act together & completed my 1st bowl with flutes around the rim. It's magnolia wood as was what I had at hand. Used the Dremel but it did struggle as I thought it might. Didn't have a big range of router bits so wasn't ideally what I had in mind. Thought a v cut or half round...

    Fluting/routing jig advice please?

Cheers for the feedback. I've got a step closer now as have managed to mount a base on the tool rest that can pivot so can change the angle. Will start with the Dremel and hopefully buy some router bits tomorrow. Have started on the sled but not complete yet. Just a couple more questions, do you...

    Fluting/routing jig advice please?

The work looks stunning! I think that if I can start out with just a straight line on a bowl I will have achieved something. I have the flexible shaft that came with the Dremel so that might be where I start but it's a small collet so wil only accept a small router bit. Maybe a trim router but...

    Fluting/routing jig advice please?

John, thanks for that, I will check out the ornamental turning sites, hopefully get me on my way. Initially I will probably attempt a straight sided bowl as yes anything concave or convex would be much more complex. Thanks again.

    Fluting/routing jig advice please?

Greetings folks! Attempting to add some flutes and decorative designs on some bowls but struggling with the logistics. Have made an indexing system but got myself into a muddle with the next stage. Will a Dremel tool be suitable to do the routing? It's an older model 300 but didn't want to take...

    Does anyone print onto wood?

I like the design and the finish on the bowls. What did you use to get the gloss? Cheers

Sawing / cutting turned wood on a lathe

If want a really thin cut can you use a junior hacksaw? Or as others have mentioned a parting tool.

    Assuming I have a forge ...

Is there any chance you could make a bowl gouge out of them? Or are they too short?

why is hobby woodworking in decline?

I've been pretty intrigued by the thread and hearing about other people's stories. I was fortunate enough that my father was a carpenter and so I had the opportunity to play around with woodworking at a young age. He was an old school carpenter that didn't touch electrics, plumbing or painting...
