Better to turn off at the mains and replace faulty valve the same time as you do your taps

Thanks for the advise I will try this as I know the owner had passed away and the lathe has been idle and in a damp shed for some time

I am new to wood turning and have bought a second hand Clarke CWL20RV lathe but although it should have 10 speeds I am only getting speed settings 6,7,and 8 the lever will not move to any other gears
