    Kitchen floooring recommendations

Maybe worth a look at “Marmoleum”, a modern take on old fashioned Lino. Feels warm underfoot, no petrochemicals, loads of designs including some indistinguishable from polished concrete and very hardwearing. We put it in a kitchen refur a few years ago and have been very happy with it. Price...

Latest thing you have printed / machined / cut

Post cappings for oversized 145mm balcony posts. Inset underneath to fit post and drip groove that works well. Modelled in Fusion360 and printed in waterproof white PETG on Prusa Mk3S. Would have been expensive to have made in timber and would need custom jig on table saw to make myself. Colour...

    Which 3d printer - 2023 edition

Agree with what has been said by @sploo. Just to add that you will definitely need to tinker if you run a consumer 3D printer of any kind; Bambu admit as much even for the X1C (which incidentally looks excellent at £1500). Also, if you want to print with materials such as ASA/ABS, nylon or TPU...

Installing wall cupboard over electrical conduit

Hang cabinets on French cleats? Should give clearance and easy access in case required in future. Mark cabinet indicating conduit position as already suggested.

    ChatGPT - artificial intelligence.

I really recomend the BBC Reith lectures 2021 in which Stuart Russell, a British computer scientist working at UC Berkeley, gives an excellent overview of AI and it’s recent and possible future impacts on our lives. Brilliantly delivered, clear and totally terrifying. Also an excellent Q&A...

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

New to the forum but here goes. An interesting thread. Firmly believe the solution is more low tech than heat pumps etc. We just refurbed our 120 year old home by upgrading insulation (200mm all round) airtightness (<3 air changes per hour) and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. We...

    Resawn floorboards

Thanks for these helpful comments. Just to say, you can put ufh under normal boards, we have done this on the first floor using pipes clipped to joists and it works well with no warping or splits after 2 months.

    Resawn floorboards

Thanks, that's great. I will send one on. I guess Swedish pine is the same as baltic pine which the reclamation guys say was all used up by the Victorians?

    Resawn floorboards

I have a question about the installation of wood flooring. We have recently renovated our 1902 costal home. It was freezing cold with no draughtproofing or insulation so we put in underfloor and roof insulation, underfloor heating, external wall insulation, airtightness and mechanical...
