    Am I being unreasonable?

Blister wrote "I must be fortunate then , so far I have avoided chiwanese lathes , my list is as follows Poolwood 28 40 Poolwood Euro 2000 Union graduate variable speed Woodfast Silverdrive Statesman and now a VB 36 correct me if I am wrong but I don't think any of these and made in China ...

    Am I being unreasonable?

If you don't but "chaiwanese" products, what do you buy? I doubt if there is any machinery under a grand or two now that isn't made in China or Taiwan - virtually everything apart from high end stuff is made there - not just Record but Scheppach, Axminster, Jet, Metabo, Myford, Nova, Draper...

New RECORD TS200 Sliding Table Saw!!

Can't speak for the Axminster one - but I have seen the Fox version in the flesh (looks identical to me apart from the price) and its rough as the proverbial badgers. I always liked the Kity which is a lovely saw - and this is a copy, but not well done, very rough and ready. If you are looking...

Record BS350S bandsaw- first impressions and pics

Oddsocks - I have the original BS350 and upgraded the fence a year ago to the one prior to this new one which is similar. On that you can slacken two knobs that hold the fence in place and then slide it back on the mount enough to tilt it backwards without catching on the top box. Then it just...

    Which panel saw???

I note from the other thread that John has bought the Startrite STA300 and says he is happy with that. This is £2,199 plus VAT according to the Startrite website. I don't have personal experience of this or the Elektra machine - but the Startrite certainly looks like a much more industrial...

    record Bandsaw BS350X

If you have a new blade from a reputable source like Dure Edge and you are tensioning it OK - have you checked the belt tension? I have a BS350 and it is certainly capable of cutting 8" at a sensible rate. Is it possible that your belt is not tensioned enough - especially as you say you have had...

    Table saw

I also bought a TSPP250 last year - but still have it. The swinging arm and sliding table were a pig to set up and the manual was pants, then I had the same problem with the rise and fall - plastic as you say. So it was not a good start, but to be fair to Record they sent out an engineer to fix...

    Kempton Park Woodworking Show

Last year I went to Axminster and Kempton Park. This year it's no contest - I will only go to Kempton. Reasons? Wide selection of all the main brands (Axminsters increasing deathly white and disappearing brands is getting tiresome) The best selection of machines I have seen at any shows...

Workshop Air Filters Are they Worth The Money?

If you don't get any joy with the dealer you should try Record direct (see their guarantee info item 3.2 http://www.recordpower.co.uk/index.pl?s ... c=1&dp=144 ) . This is what I did when I had a problem with a bandsaw and the dealer was completely useless. Record were very helpful and sorted...

Happy Endings with a Record DX500 Dust Extractor

Glad to hear it has been resolved. I bought one of these at the Yandles show and it has been excellent - but I rang Record after your posting as they had told me at the show that the extractors were still made in the UK. They said they did not know how or why you had a 'Made in China' on the...

    Startrite 352 Handbook/ Instructions

Have you tried Startrite themselves? see www.startrite.co.uk I have always found them helpful and wouldn't be surprised if you could get a copy manual from them for nothing or maybe cover post. Worth a try anyway - there is a contact page. Cheers Scratchy

    Bandsaw Upgrades

Hi Beech, I used to have access to a Startrite bandsaw (sadly no longer) and although very basic I wouldn't be too keen to chuck out the blade guides and certainly not to replace them with cheapo roller guides. The blocks are made to be run right up close to the blade and whilst they do have a...

    New Record Power Web Site

Gidon - nice review, looks like a bit of a bargain. I have the RSBS12 which has also been very good but these new ones look a whole lot better - typical. Seems Record have a problem with co-ordination, singing and hymn sheets. Shame, cos I've always found them helpful and they seem to be coming...
