2020 Secret Santa ......and we're off!

Thanks Droogs, a quick update: I found a perfect side handle so I don't have to make one. Now my excellent drill is complete :)

2020 Secret Santa ......and we're off!

I was delighted to receive a strongly made wooden packing case containing this North Bros No. 1555 breast drill. It is an "all-singing-all-dancing" model with a switch to select between five modes of operation: "Plain", "L.H. Ratchet", "R.H.", "R.H. Double" and "Lock". There are also a small...

    Advice on lathe purchase

It is a Myford ML7 with quick change gearbox. A real bargain at that price.

    In Cannel Gouges

A Dremel tool with a grinding stone bit will do it. Keep it moving and use a delicate touch.

Phil, I don't mind if my recipient is right or left handed. I just would like to know which is their dominant hand.

    Small Chamfer Plane

This small chamfer plane is made of padauk and brass, with an iron of O1 steel. One fence is fixed and the other is adjustable. An Allen key for making the adjustment is stored inside the plane, held in place by a rare earth magnet within. Most of the work was done with hand tools.

    HSS Zero Flute Countersink

Thanks for your replies. I used the method of sharpening using a Dremel tool, as shown in the video linked by chaoticbob and I'm pleased to say that it worked fine :)

Der große römische Hobel aus Oberüttfeld

Thanks Triker64, I was aware of that one and I have made a reproduction of it as described in the following post: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/the-goodmanham-plane.107470/ It is one of the few Roman planes found in Britain and I hope to see the original one day.

    HSS Zero Flute Countersink

After countersinking about 50 holes in mild steel this bit no longer cuts. Please can anyone tell me how I can re-sharpen it?
