Hi it is possibly sap stain the same as the blue/grey streaks you see in Northfolk Pine and light coloured woods. There is a product that you can apply to the wood as soon as possible after it has been cut. There is a company I think in Liverpool called Osmose there web site is www.osmose.co.uk...

    Platter

Steve you do not say what the diameter of the platter/s will be. I have made many plates 320mm diameter and bigger and held the 25m-50mm blank with a chuck set in a 55mm diameter 3mm deep recess with no problem. I say no problem if you treat the blank the same as you would a lady gently. Your...

I had a left and right hand barley twist made in 1997 1.2m long x 120mm thick. the right hand twist on a copy lathe is strait forward it...

What's your favourite thing about turning?

My favourite when I was turning bowls 20years ago and the piece looked like a bowl and not a chamber pot with out a handle. Now days I strive to make more arty farty stuff and am chuffed when I achieve 90% of what I had skethed. I to have a stainless steel and plastic leg and aim to turn a new...

    easy wood

If they work for you fine. They do have a place in some workshops. I personally don't use them as the cost is above my means. I would rather make a plan to buy a book on turning if I was just starting out and learn to make better looking pieces. If you are selling your pieces the customer does...

    Which Design Book?

Bob do you make any sketches of what you want to turn. If not ok next if you have wine glasses, brandy balloons, vases for flowers in fact any vessel make copies of them in wood. Doing this will give you a good idea about design. All these items are in your house because you liked them when you...
