Ha! I've just started turning and assuming if I try and turn a bowl, the gouge will catch in the defect and potentially go flying....

Do you mean the black handle in the photo going up vertically as I have loosened this fully? Nothing is too obvious as ages since I tried woodturning so I will be making loads of school boy errors!

I bought the above lathe second hand and have turned a couple of bowls. When I have tried to spindle turn I have noticed the Tailstock won't extend out - so if I turn the wheel it moves a but it but the tailstock won't come out it secure the wood. I have tried WD40 and a 'persuader' to no...

Thanks - it was £150 so I was happy with that. It came with some tools but fairly basic ones. I bought a Robert Corby bowl gouge this morning though.

You couldn't advise on the type of faceplate ring to buy could you so I can start some turning? Just had a look on the Axminster site and there are an array so not sure which I would need...

Thanks - that did the trick. Just me being dense and forgetful. I guess I just need a faceplate ring now to actually do any turning....

At the weekend, whilst my wife was away (!) I bought a second hand lathe on a whim. It came with a chuck but I realised I have no idea to to remove the chuck. I also can't see a faceplate ring so I'm not sure the best way to attach a bowl and at last try some turning. The lathe is a SIP...
