    individuals turning threads?

I would suggest that certain topics have their own threads as usual but that if you think it adds to your journey thread that perhaps you mention or copy and paste suitable material or a link within the journey thread. As mentioned about coming in halfway through a journey thread etc. If you...

    individuals turning threads?

To sit and read 10-20 pages of a thread that would show you where someone stared, what they had learned, changes to setup they had made, lathe upgrades, changes in how they do things and why, problems solved, help from others given ...seems like a good hour or so spent and would perhaps highlight...

    individuals turning threads?

Oh well.... bit of a shame because it would support this site by increasing the footfall and become an even more sociable place, in that there would likely be more daily postings and discussions. Perhaps I'll start one and see how it goes. thanks Chas and keep up the good work John

    individuals turning threads?

While I am new to turning and this forum I would like to make a suggestion that I have seen and participated in on another forum(not woodworking but another hobby(reefkeeping)). Basically people have a buid thread or turning journey thread where they show where they started and show...

    What's under your lathe?

As I'm new to turning and have still not organised everything,Underneath my coronet minor lathe bed id the bench made out of 8x4s. Underneath that is about 40 rough blanks for bowl turning which haven't had the corners cut off or the ends sealed. mostly spalted beech from a dead tree trunk I cut...

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

Have been using the cole Jaws for a couple of days and am very happy with them. the dovetail buttons(so called buffer kit) have held the two bowls I've worked on(flared rims) very well. been able to true up and sand and clean up base very nicely. havent tried holding anything yet with 90 degree...

Gallery additions, the quest for me time.

Thanks for that pic with the cole jaws Chas. Mine have come and I have been using them with the shaped dovetails. they held the 2 bowls I worked on very comfortably and securely(prob due to shape of rim). I even found that I could true up the outside with light cuts with a bowl gouge and a...

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

Thanks Chas. Just been looking at doughnut chuck method to use instead of tailstock support.(anything larger than 6 inch diameter I have to swivel the head)anything smaller I guess jam chuck possibly best way to go. Have also noticed tape method and clingfilm mentioned stretched around rim. John

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

Thanks for that input Chas. Do you often need tailstock support or have you made different fittings for different edges. do the supplied buttons which I guess are 90 degree hold rims that fit snugly or do you find that you need the dovetail versions and shape the bowls correspondingly.... or...

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

yep just for removing tenons and perhaps a little light truing up/sanding/polishing etc. these jaws allow you to leave them on underneath your normal jaws and I was wondering if anyone does that as it would save a lot of time removing and replacing jaws or buying another chuck. Thanks Simon John

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

As my lathe bed is only 3" below center I have to swivel the headstock whenever turning bowls larger than 6". therefore I cant use support from tailstock with a jam chuck etc. the rp remounting jaws look good and I could keep my standard jaws on at the same time which sounds good. Anyone have...
