Thank you all for such valuable and useful input. it's very helpful indeed to have so much experience and insight in one place.
I put out a quote yesterday based on my material calculations and anticipated work. they seemed keen on me but got back to me saying they received an offer for 5k and...
Thank you niall for the valued input. A good shout about glueing up the pieces from thin ply and as you pointed out there won't be a direct line of sight. I was given an old vacum press bag from a guitar builder friend of mine. so i'm thinking now it might be better to create a form just for the...
Good afternoon uk worskhoppers. I wanted to ask your opinion on the following. This just landed in my inbox and I was asked to quote for it. A rather large chunk of a reception desk to be made from solid wood.
Whilst i'm a competent woodworker I haven’t built something with curves on this scale...

it's quite a simple jig and not my idea.
so basically it is two pieces of scrap screwed/glued at a right angle on the top. I screwed a circle cut out for my router copy ring to follow. the leg is clamped in position below and the router rides the circle and cuts the tenon.
in order to...
Thanks everyone thats some really good advice and that article @HOJ you provided is most helpful.
I will dry fit the legs in to their battens and flip the desk over on to a flat piece of mdf and clamp a bit of wood across like you suggested to find the angle. the cradle jig in the article seems...
I am making a new desk at the moment with turned tapered legs.
Since I don’t have a lathe at the moment I made the legs the table saw using a shop made jig
And turned the angled tenons with a router and a another jig
the tenons fit in to a the corresponding hole drilled in to the two...
That seems like a good way to go. I need to get in to the guide bushing game as soon as I get a bigger router, I only have a small makita multi base router which is limited when it comes to guide bushings
Thanks Doug that's a good shout using a jig with both hinge placements marked/templated up on it. I have seen special hinge drilling forester bits online which advertise a small brad point bit but still a risky purchase for this application.
Hi guys,
So I have run in to a little bit of a problem.I am making some small inset doors for a shelving unit. The material I'm using is 16mm white pre primed mdf. upon drilling the holes for the cup of the hinges the brad point of the forester bit punctures the other side.
To remedy this I...
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to chime back in here again with two different constuction methods of this shelving system and which one would you think would be the best way to go.
I have access to a lamello zeta and am going to use the clamex connectors joining the shelves to the verticals. As...
Thanks @Stokes&co i'm going to offer two aternatives to them the 19mm framless version and the faceframe version albeit with different size grid and see which one they go for.
the sheet good im looking to use is veenered blockboard which seems pretty common here in germany. i've used it a...
Thanks for the feedback and really usefull to get perspectives. I am limited to 19mm thickness veneered board from suppliers here in germany otherwise I agree that would be a bit better to use slightly thicker stock. the design that was sent me has specific shelf sizing to fit storage boxs they...
