    i use a low angle block plane on end grain and it works very well if the blade is sharp.

    I’d avoid osmo - we used to use it a lot on doors and windows but have stopped after numerous customer complaints. Have you looked into polyvine products? Tristan

    Funnily enough that is the exact one I’m thinking of getting, just can’t quite believe I’ll be able to get the spikes deep enough into the oak board to get beyond the surface reading 🤷‍♂️
