Cutting boards without table saw, planer etc

So I’ve spent WAY too many hours watching YouTube videos of folks making cutting boards and I really would like to get into it. Is it possible without a table saw and a thickness planer? Anyone on here into making cutting boards?

    Got a new vice....

Should I drill pilot holes before securing the vice to my bench? The screws are chunky. Aldo is it l ok or accountable to make the cheeks wider than the vice? (homer)

    Got a new vice....

As always thanks! I’m adding chunky beech cheeks that I think last a while. Good tip on planing them down to be flush... I was trying to think of how to do that exact measurement but now i’ll just cut approx and place down.

    Got a new vice....

So... I bought an “Irwin Record” vice today and even just holding it I can tell it’s better than the nasty b&q one. However.... stupid question alert... The holes for attacking the cheeks aren’t tapped. Am I missing something? How do you attack the cheeks? Sorry for all the newbie questions.

Another question. I’m right handed... what’s the common thought on which side of my bench the vice should go on?

Thanks for all the advice....... I took the b&q One back today and got a refund. Honestly it was terrible in ways that none of you guys even touched on. It was so so bad. So the hunt is now on for my vice!!

Haha this is a great post - thank you! The problem is I have been watching wood working videos constantly for months, so as soon as I got this new house with a big garage that’s all mine - I’ve went a bit mad lol

Found an old Stanley plane in my dad’s loft

God knows how many decades this has been sat up there. Wondering if anyone on here can tell me if it’s a good one or for the bin?

First ever project - go easy :-)

The bench is pretty rock solid. I’m really pleased with it. Here is the one I got: Workbench With Double Shelf Indoor/Outdoor - Pressure Treated - Heavy Duty - Handmade Garage Workshop Work Table (6ft) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076LVLJXS/ ... dEbNBXRC06
