Kitchen worktop - am I doing it right?

The slot in your jig has been re cut by the 'fly by night' that sold it you. Having used home cut jigs and latterly Duropal jigs for over 45 years, it is essential that the front edge of the scribe slot is erred to and this will be easy because the slot should be 30.5 mm wide and the bush 30mm...

    What is wrong with tradesmen?

My experience is thus. All tradesmen, since covid it seems (maybe brexit), charge far too much labour rate, even given the time they must allow for site visit and quoting. Many of them are arrogant and untidy and again, since covid, many, many of them are obviously untrained idiots from other...

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

I agree with everything Against_The_Grain has written. Exactly my experience. I would also chuck in when local government policy drives you out..as in the case of Wycombe's destructive treatment of its chair making industry. Washed up, broke and broken. So my advice is the same.......DON'T.

    High Wycombe chair museum

Of course High Wycombe's chair museum has chairs stuck to the wall and some 'rubbish furniture' elsewhere. It depends what you want to get from your visit. Treat it with disdain and it will be like any other national treasure. Want to be there and the museum has a world of information to offer...

Thread direction of a tote, why?

We made all chair seats out of elm so as a kid I made new handles for my 5 1/2 from elm with particularly complex grain. It's seen much use in 50 years and has not suffered all all. Try it. Btw it's not a tote.. it's a handle

    Laminating with Formica

You broke the makers' rules...what you do to one side of a substrate you must do to the other every time...you have to laminate both sides of the board to maintain balance and prevent bowing.

    £10

I have just received my £10. I have donated it directly into the NHS because it is more important that nurses can eat and stay warm than for me to buy another tool or tip wine down my throat. Think about it...you are going to need our nurses selfless skills one day!

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Low angle, High angle, Round the bend angle ....it don't matter as long as the tool is sharp and made from Sheffield steel because it is the best in the world...and with Jacob about Norris adjusters and thick blades.
