    Treehouse Windows - ideas please

Hi Peeps A few weeks ago I posted asking about a slide for my kids tree house which I have now finished. I bought a plastic on in the end, it was the most straightforward solution. The tree house has two windows one larger than the other. I was thinking of the following and could do with some...

Thank you for your responses, some things to consider.

Advice for a wooden outdoor kids slide.

Hi Peeps I’ve built the monsters a treehouse, or at least a clubhouse on an old tree stump. It’s about 1.5m of the ground at decking level and I’d like to add a slide to the treehouse. Now I’ve checked the price of steel slides and the smallest are expensive enough to air you blanch. My next...

3/4" Bench Dogs - clearances for making your own.

That's helpful Phil. My guess might be a bit tight, I might aim for more 0.4-0.8mm clearance then.

3/4" Bench Dogs - clearances for making your own.

Well as an engineer I'd like a smooth clearance and not sloppy. But whilst I would happily state the clearance for a steam turbine, wood is a different beast. I haven't drilled a hole yet, but I could provide a wooden sample and let the machinist work it out for themselves. It was just timing...

3/4" Bench Dogs - clearances for making your own.

Hi Guys I'm looking for some advice. I've asked a colleague to knock me up some bench dogs/stops for my home made workbench. I have a 19mm auger bit like the ones in the link below. https://www.workshopheaven.com/star-m-j ... ngles.html Not being a machinist and not having done this before...

Advice Please- problems with Rust-oleum Chalk Paint

I haven’t contacted Rust-oleum yet. I may do if problems persist. Tried again today, temps a lot lower and paint behaved a bit better, I went for thinner coats, still some brush strokes but far less problematic.

Advice Please- problems with Rust-oleum Chalk Paint

Hi Guys I’ve been building kitchen cabinets in advance of doing the kitchen and the wife has settled on Rust-oleum Chalk Paint. I’ve built the first 2 painted then then sealed with 3 coats of Polyvine Hard Furniture Varnish (satin). And whilst they are not perfect I was pretty happy with them...

Trouble using Record Power WG200 wet grinder

With the chisels it’s less of an issue but for the plane I would imagine if the blade is centred one side won’t cut so I’ll use all the side to side adjustment to correct i, assuming there is enough. I was straight sharpening the plane blade so I could use it for smoothing rather than camber...

Trouble using Record Power WG200 wet grinder

Fair point. I found that one of the chisels was cocked in the jig because I’d overtightened once side. The one that is still eluding me is the plane blade but as you say maybe cocking it in the jig might be the answer. Thx for taking the time to respond much appreciated.

Trouble using Record Power WG200 wet grinder

Hi peeps I have a Record Power WG 200 wet grinder and I’m having trouble getting decent results. I noticed last night when using it for one of the first times. I was grinding a 25 degree primary bevel on a plane and noticed the grind was skew. I put a square across the blade and it was out by...

    UKJ Mitre Fence Problem

Thx for the responses guys. The sanding option appeals rather than routing, I’ve never been a machinist and worry about making a hash. Any suggestions on type and grade of abrasive. Also would I need to hone/polish to finish? My gut feeling is for slot surface finish not crucial so long as flat.

    UKJ Mitre Fence Problem

Sadly we’re not even getting that far. The first 5mm has lost the black coating trying to get it into the mitre slot. But even jamming it in isn’t a solution as the friction increases 5he further I push it. I’ll have to get the vernier out but I reckon at present I have a 1 thou interference...

    UKJ Mitre Fence Problem

Hi peeps I took advantage of a recent Axminster offer to buy the UKJ mitre fence for £49 instead of normal £90+. It’s a nice bit of kit short fence with and end stop and the presets on the mitre angles are pretty tight when the mitre is untightened and solid when tightened. I had planned to...

    Black Friday

Check out some of your local independent tools stores and see if they have any days when they get the reps in. My local store had a rep day last Saturday and on the day discounts on a combi drill and driver set was £305 for their normal list price of £385 compared to a Screwfix list price...
