Double ground vs triple ground teeth on a handsaw?

It is the ratio of "number of cutting edges" against "room in the gullets". That is better on japanese theeth than on western teeth. The japanes toothing can be watched as a western toothing, but added another gullet at the ground of the usual gullet. You get a pitch of may 19 TPI, but the...

sounds like it is a well beloved and often sharpened saw, wich blade was taper grind. the only way to solve in my understanding is to have the same width between the left and right teeth over the whole length of the saw. And yes you have to increase the amoubnt of set where the blade is...

    Rasp set

I don't think you need rasps. Iwasaki Carving files will do about 95% of the jobs. https://www.fine-tools.com/carvingfile.html Cheers Pedder

The price isn't high for you get. That's a well made saw in a good conditon. And in my part of Europe, you don't get these things on fleas. I look at the UK saws on ebay on a regular basis. If you finde a cheap saws in a reasonable stat, sure the seller will not ship outside UK. Cheers Pedder

    Liogier hand stitched rasps

Hand stitched rasps wether Liogier or Aurio are fantastic for fine work. But for big material remove and for the small money, Iwasaki file rasps are the best option in my opinion.

Not sure but I've S&J with the same extra badge around the medaillon. That saw was the 200 year special edition from 1960. So maybe this helps. Cheers Pedder

    Hand Rip Sawing

Late to the party, but want to add my 0,02 €. Even with a sharp saw I'd expect to take one cut about half an hour and 0,2 l of sweat. Two hand grip! I would join the teeth an file them with about 5° rake. Derust before sharpening. You would need more set with the rust. The main tip in...

    Saw sharpening.

I don't know how it works (and I don't care). I tried it, it worked, I was happy. (First test was on laser toothed blades from a friend).

    Saw sharpening.

You can temper the saw blades at 220°C -250°c in the oven till they get blue. Then you can file the teeth. Or cut the old teeth of with a shear Or use a diamond triangular file and file them.
