Thanks all, the taper is the correct one but tends to start coming out at speed and I have to support it until the lathe spools down not very safe I know. I like the idea of using the tailstock and can maybe come up with a small adaptor to use the revolving centre. Thanks to everyone great...

Hi again, this may be a silly question but I am having problems getting the buffer taper to stay in my lathe head, as it comes up to speed more often than not it starts to come out of the head and I have to catch the thing which is not pleasant. Have I missed something or is it me being stupid...

Thanks everyone, I like the tip of using the tailstock for support, stupidly I never thought of that, was too concerned with trying to get a perfect base. Will have another go next week, making a box is certainly a challenge and has taught me a lot. Best wishes all

As you say the plate behind the belt is unmachined and not a mirror finish, whether or not this has an effect through the belt is probably hard to say, what I can say is that the plate appears to hold lots of debris, presumably due to its surface finish so have given it a good clean. As you say...
