Post a photo of the last thing you made

Thanks George. I thought that, but was concerned that the wax may negate the stain resistant features of Patina. I'll see how it goes and maybe use wire wool/wax down the line. Stains shouldn't be a worry really because, after all, it isn't a coffee table ;)

I'm guessing this is an occasional table. It's for our hall and won't get used for coffee - more likely handbags, keys and the post. I'm not a fan of 'river' tables, having seen so many terrible examples and being averse to ruining beautiful wood with resin, but I liked the look of a Tim Stead...

I haven't been very productive in the shed lately, too busy getting out and enjoying the sun when it happens, but I have just this week completed this Elm, Oak and Maple box, which sold before it was finished! I couldn't resist adding a bookmark from spalted Alder.

    Button Box

I find us mere mortals history far more interesting (and much less annoying 🙄) than the stuff we were force fed at school 🙂

    Button Box

I handed the box over today and the lady is delighted. Here's a couple of photo's with it's intended contents. So nice to become part of someone's family history.

    Button Box

I very much doubt that Paul, you showed me what you had made with it!

    Button Box

Thanks Fitz. That was a cause of concern but eventually I found that my latest tin of Danish Oil, Rustins, was perfect for the job. It's very thin, takes an age to harden and was destined for the bin just as soon as I found a replacement but it did the job in this case. Funnily enough I saw a...

    Button Box

Thank you! As a rule I don't like commissions but with the long timescale, free hand on design and charming back story I couldn't resist. I think it's delicacy became an infatuation and I've concentrated on very little else!

    Button Box

Thanks so much Tom! The hinge was a bit of a problem. I wanted to keep the outside of the box clean and simple, spent a lot of time messing about with barrel hinges and did contemplate a wooden hinge. But in the end I went for two captive brass pins - and very nearly forgot the lid when I...

    Button Box

A couple of months ago I was asked if I would like to make a small box to hold two brass buttons. The only conditions laid down were that it was to be made of Oak and Canadian Maple - the rest was up to me. I thought at one point that I'd fallen at the first hurdle when I discovered the price...

A pair of bedside boxes that I've just completed. Maple with Elm lids and scoops. Paul

    Found Genuine Canadian Maple

Paul, mate, you're a lovely man! And from Somerset - we moved up here from there 9 years ago. Speak when you return. Thanks again!

    Found Genuine Canadian Maple

I've been asked to make a small box to accommodate two uniform buttons from WW2 and a Free French lapel badge. The box is to be made of Oak and Canadian Maple. The Canadian Maple is for my clients personal and sentimental reasons and can't be anything else. My problem is the price of the...

Black & Decker Workmate - Do you?

Wouldn't be without mine - a modern, pressed steel job. Just after we moved here (and before I had a workshop) we were desperate for some storage so I built these solely on my Workmate on the front gravel drive, when it wasn't raining!
