    For Sale Workshop Essentials DVDs

Hello all, I'm looking to sell on my complete collection of the Workshop Essentials DVDs. I'm asking for £50 (plus postage where applicable), as this is half of what the full set would cost new. All discs are in very good working order. No damage to the cases. Collection also available from...

    Material for Workbench Top

Hi all, Well, I haven't been around here much for a long while but when I did come back not long ago, I was quietly pleased to see there is now a sub-forum for metalworking, as this might kind of tie-in with my day job! I've spent the last couple of years making packing cases for a company...

    19mm Drill Bit

I'm a big fan of the Armeg Wood Beavers (you can buy them from Axminster). They're an auger-style bit and they race through the wood without dulling; even leaving a clean cut on the exit side of the hole! They're good for use in hand-held drills but I wouldn't recommend one for pillar drill use...

    Planer/thicknesser changeover

The changeover time on my AW106PT has often been fast (lift both beds up and swing the hood up and over - sometimes you need to wind the thicknessing bed down first) but I found that leaving it 'open' with the in- and outfeed tables up takes up a lot of space... So I took them off and now store...

Can't go wrong with brown oak (table and bench)

I love brown oak and that top is outstanding!! Nice design and great to see you making so much progress on a pair of Workmates.

    Getting back in the saddle!

Very glad to read it Steve! :-) I also look forward to seeing photos and please tell us more about this community workshop?

Makita LS 1013 compound saw problem

I had the same problem with mine a few years ago and I think I might have used a wooden dowel to tap the tube out but, I can't be certain... You want to be wary of that spring if you do attempt this yourself (it is possible) because it us under a lot of compression and will fly out once one end...

Mothers day present... an oak coffee table

Love the shape of the top and it works well with the leg. Very nice! :-)

    Bench top planers

Of the ones I've seen (SIP, Rexon), they all have noisy brush motors. Not quite as loud as one of the benchtop thicknessers but it's certainly not an induction model.

Opinions needed on a gate please

I like Carl's suggestion. To me, it looks as though you could cut each from a couple of boards egde-jointed together. You'd want to make your template before hand so that you can carefully set out the slots for biscuits or splines though (DAMHIKT).

    Sharpening question - Don't panic!

Hi Mark, I bought what looks to be an identical set of those from Rutlands, either last year or the year before. It works well and doesn't require much effort. I even put a 'rough' video of it all on YouTube, if you have a spare ten minutes. ;-)

Drill & Counter Sink Sets - which are best?

I do like those universal countersinks; the ones that can fit to any drill size from 3mm up to 9mm in diameter, IIRC. Famag do them and I'm sure Trend have their own as well. You can buy them individually (without a set of bits) and they're usually about £20-25, from memory. I'm sure Workshop...

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

Hi Mick, Yep, it's still fitted to my top tyre (but then, I haven't had another blade breakage since to test the strength of the glue! ;-)). It was easy to fit but I never got around to truing and crowning it properly. It's okay, but not perfect. Sometimes, a narrow blade (½in or less) will...

    Drill Press Thickness Sander

It may not 'grab', if you feed it in the correct direction but, how do you prevent kickback? This seems like an issue with smaller/shorter pieces (I've thought about doing something similar with my bobbin sander but have not yet bothered).

Plug cutter for pocket hole joinery?

Sorry, I meant to get back to you on this last night! So far, I'm very impressed by this bit (it is, essentially, a dowel cutter). It didn't feel very sharp to the touch but it cut through pine and a red hardwood I had (both with and across the grain) without any burning or difficulty. It...
