Advice on repairing rotten door jambs

I have a can of ronseal clear preservative. Its quite pricy compared to the stuff that you paint thefence with. but it is real preservative. Its clear, thin, ans soaks right in. It goes on before any fillers. to be honest its belt and braces. If you dont bother I doubt it will matter too...

I unreservedly apologise to land rover then! (I'm sure something was hand cranked backwards up a sand dune in some film - That's going to be bugging me for the rest of the day now!)

    Fitted desk top advice please

Thats 50 or 60kg of desk. I don‘t think its going to deflect even a mm over 1.3 m.! You could have movement at both ends, the right pulling away and the left pushing in. I’m not sure it will be too bad, but an upstand or length of moulding would be the normal way. on 40mm oak I dont think it...

    Project climbing wall

Ok,i think I'm getting there. its probably easier make your triangle out of a short (2.4m) length of 150x50 ‘treated‘ wood. make a right angle triangle ‘cos thats easier. Screw these in place from the back using exterior garden screws. Pickup a sheet of WBP ply, or OSB3 if you can handle a...

    Project climbing wall

Hi, and welcome. TBH im not quite sure what you are asking. Probably if i knew anything about climbing walls it would be obvious, but i’m afraid i dont! so, how much space do you need between the top and the roof? How big does the roof need to be, and how permanent? Is it to Protect from a...

Air dried oak for outdoor chairs?

Yeah, its just a guide isn’t it. I've got windows in my house that are clearly some kind of Meranti and were fitted back in 1982, 4 owners ago. Apart from me fixing a bit of softness around one or two hinges they are absolutely fine. I guess the message is that in similar circumstances a more...

Air dried oak for outdoor chairs?

I've just finished repairing a old bench seat with some air dried oak that I felled and planked about 3 years ago. So yes, air dried is fine - as long as it really is dried. Get it from a reputable source. the wood will move a little as the seasons change, but most designs allow for that...
