    Arch joint

Thanks, that was what I was heading for.

    Arch joint

Hi, I'm making an arched gate. My first thought was to join the arch to the stile as the first pic, just as you would on a standard door. I'm now toying with the alternative that would be used if the arch was steeper, more semi-circular. It's external and will probably be lead...

    The Fenland Black Oak Project

I have had a quick search and haven't found anything posted before about this project, although I expect many of you know about it. I make a yearly pilgrimage to Downham Market to get a car serviced. Last year, despite the 5am start, mrstree said she would like to come with me & we could go...

    6mm MDF screening panel

Just had a quick look on ebay. Probably not the style you're after but it's a start. Go to the shop for more options. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radiator-Cab ... 3234077092

sticking Formica to a ply wall

Fair point indeed. Of course we have no idea of the size of the formica. Fixing a piece 2ft squ is a completely different prospect to fitting a piece 14ft x6ft

Not being contradictive, but why? just interested. As an addition to the OP, CT1 has many applications.

    Indents in wood. Bugs?

I think they might be glue bumps. Check the work bench and any vice or clamps you're using. There might be small blobs of set glue that someone has left behind, when you clamp or rest the wood these bumps will leave an indent. Run your hands over the work area, you'll soon feel any bumps.

    Recommend me some filler!

Typical, I know the bit you're talking about. I knew someone wouldn't be able to resist a bit of criticism. Of course I'm going to put it right before the client sees it, although I doubt an untrained eye would pick it out. These people have paid very good money for top craftsmanship, I don't do...

    Recommend me some filler!

Not too bad for a first attempt but could do with a bit of tidying up I think. Could you recommend a filler, doesn't have to match the colour perfectly!  (hammer) (hammer)

    Arched Gate joints question.

Thanks, that's very useful. Is this is what you mean, I'll have to cheat a bit with where the meeting point on the stile is at the base of the arch, because my stock is 230mm and not quite wide enough for the full depth of curve. Can I use loose tenons at the apex? Just as another point, I'm...

    Arched Gate joints question.

I had to resize it because it was too big to post, hmm, The height is 2130 Width 1130 Stiles 100x 70 Rails 225 x 47 Boards are 90 x 23 The arch isn't quite a true semi-circle, but close enough. And yes, it's heavy  Is that enough?

    Arched Gate joints question.

Hello all, I am making a rather large arched gate, ledged and braced. I was going to join as the first sketch. Are there any merits or disadvantages for running the joints as the second sketch, apart from the number of joints? Also I would rather cut stop tenons as opposed to through tenons...

What to use these oak off cuts for?!?!

Square them off, or turn into cylinders, slice across the grain 4-5mm thick, wine coasters. Back them with SA felt.

    Window wood advice

Sure, It was just a suggestion of a route to go, obviously you'd look closer to home, wherever that is. :D

    Window wood advice

If you're looking for a thicknesser for this single project, I would look on ebay, buy something of reasonable quality and then sell it on after you've finished with it. I doubt you would lose much on the deal. Something like this would see you right. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/kity-1636-pl ...
