    LeD lighting

The only noticeable heat will be from your power supply. As LEDs are directional beam, the alu tape won't serve any purpose.

    LeD lighting

No, 300/5m would be SMD 5050 chips, 600/5m will be SMD 3528 chips. Although you get less per meter, the 5050 chips are much higher output than 3528. They are actually better in both terms of lumens and efficiency.

Smart Meters. Anyone had one installed? Smart Thermostats?

How can we be short on power in the UK? As of this year we have a generation capacity in excess of 60GW, not including standby engines. In the last 12 months, demand hasn't exceeded 48GW.

Well, that looks like the death of my Transit

I've got an 11 plate 350 LWB HR Transit, 86k miles with tow bar up for sale if you're interested? It' in Birmingham so not a million miles away.

    LED batten lights

:?: LED tubes are only connected at one end, the other end has dummy pins. Fluorescent tubes have filaments in each end to ignite the gas, hence the pins at both ends. The LED tubes have a live and neutral connection at one end of the tube only.

Anyone used the evolution rage table saws?

They are basically the same saw. However, the Rage is more trade oriented and has much better machining quality and tighter tolerances. For instance, I have both Fury and Rage CMS. The Fury suffers from loose pivot joints, has done from new, and the mitre lock isn't the best for accuracy. The...

Are you ready for a power cut ?

Quite true, the phases are split once they leave the local sub. However, each phase has to be balanced as much as possible to avoid issues at the generation end. Sometimes, developers and engineers forget this when they design new builds

    Makita random orbit sander

I use Flexovit on my Makita ROS, never had any issues. You can get them from Screwfix or Amazon.

    The Grand Tour

I watched the first and thought it was dire. Things can only get better eh? Wrong! Absolute rubbish. They are trying too hard to emulate TG and it's an epic fail. The team chemistry remains but that's about it. The scripting is terrible and the jokes are, well, a joke. Too much time is devoted...

Bosch 10.8v VS Makita 10.8v Drill? Which one?

:?: The original 10.8v Makita were more powerful than the Bosch Blue in testing and the batteries lasted much longer. FWIW, I've had both and much prefer the Makita. Much better balance and battery life is near twice that of the Bosch. The grip is more comfortable too, the Bosch has a strange...

    Which 18v Kit

Best of luck. My advice though, don't bother with domestic electrics - there's just too much hassle and paperwork these days. I've completely ditched the domestic electrical work now, apart from the odd job for friends, and concentrate on commercial and industrial stuff instead. Money is so much...

    Which 18v Kit

I have two of them but the USA models (£63 each inc import duty). Lightweight, fast, battery life phenomenal. Only problem is I can't find any impact driver bits that cope for more than a week without snapping.

    Which 18v Kit

I have 3 DHP480s and none of them have any chuck wobble at all :?

    Which 18v Kit

Problem? Surely if you're investing professional money in cordless kit, you take the time to research the products to find out the specs? If people don't check the specs before they buy, it's hardly Makita's fault.

    Van recommendations

£4000 should get you something half decent. For instance, the place I bought my MK7 from recently had 10 plate MK7 LWB MR 140 Sport van, one owner, 90k, for £3795 +VAT. Part of me wishes I'd held on another couple of months to the Trafic as I could have gotten that van for around £3500 inc VAT...
