    Veritas Dovetail Saw & Guide

I saw one of these once in a class I was taking and personally I thought the saw seemed very flimsy. I agree with tnimble it is probably okay but if you want to really develop sawing skills it is like training wheels on a bike.

    Rob Cosman

I would be very surprised if he went to Japanese saws, I once spoke to him ablout that, I believe in the context of cutting dovetails and his expressed opinion of them was not all that high. I believe he said that Japanese saws were for Japanese wood.

    online source for dozuki ripcut

The Lee Valley store I go to is ths same as Ottawa, I live near London Ontario and can say without any qualification, if you ask any question about any of their stock, if the person you ask does not know the answer someone on site at any time will, whether gardening or woodworking. You will not...

    Small Plough Plane

The other one, that sounds oddly ominous, or do you mean, (hand goes to mouth to stifle a gasp) a power tool forum?

    Small Plough Plane

I do not disagree witht that, I just had a bit of trouble placing my hand comfortably on the plane. Will have to watch Alf's video on same and see how she does it. As I said minor quibbles overall the plane is great, I think I have some trouble to not cuttin flat but raising a bit must work on...

    Small Plough Plane

Finally after a month of waiting, it was a month late coming, I went to my local Lee Valley store last Saturday, and purchased the Veritas small plow plane. When I got it home I read through the instructions, well actually skimmed them, and then went out to the shop to play, er I mean test it...

    Veritas Stainless Steel Edge Plane

I notice to that, he has removed the pictures from the Lee VAlley Catalogue, so someone must have said something to him. I wonder what his reserve is since his buy it now is $750.

    Veritas Stainless Steel Edge Plane

Got to wonder to, he is using the actual material from the Lee Valley Catalogue isn't that subject to copyright or something. Pity that someone doubtless had to miss out on the plane just so this shyster could try and make a quick buck.

    Which plane to use

I recently had a similar situation where I had to cut a dado in the end of two boards to fit into a slot in the bottom of a blanket box. I sawed down to the desired depth with a back saw cross grain, and then using a chisel knocked off most of the wood, and finished with a wooden skewed rabbet...

New Lie-Nielsen stuff in the pipeline

They do look interesting, but I don't know. I tend to agree with ALF on this one, how much practical use would the average woodworker have for either the match plane or the chamfer plane. I don't know about there, bit tongue and groove planes can be had fairly readily off ebay, or in antique...

    Dog leg mortise chisel

Last year I found myself doing 42 half inch wide by 2 1/2 long and two inch deep mortises, and after the first three or four, jumped into my auto voiture and got mysel up to the local Lee VAlley store and picked up one of those to. As Ian said you wouldn't use it every day but when you do it is...

how do you treat your plane?

For what it's worth I recall being at a woodshow at Rob Cosman's booth and him chuckling a bit to another woodworker about the fact that he routinely gets some grief from the old uns about putting his planes down flat on his bench, he does C. I personally do C as well, as to damaging the...
