    Snipes bills with vertical irons

Ohhhh. Fantastic folks now you've steered me right I can see the cutting edge is on a different edge of the iron and intended for a different part of the moulding. So the moulding is there just to register into the cut made by the snipes bill? Andy, Don thanks very much. edit: Don just seen...

    Snipes bills with vertical irons

Apologies if this has been covered before, i find the forums a bit tricky to search these days. Just bought some snipes bills. There’s a pair with vertical irons. Can anyone tell me why the irons are set this way? Is it for lighter work so they act more like profiled scrapers? Thanks in...

Taken: Assorted hardwood boards. Near Stockport

Hi I'm in the process of clearing my mother’s garage in anticipation of a move. There's a small number of hard/softwood boards and furniture parts to giveaway. Be a shame for them to go to waste. They are of various sizes and thicknesses but as a guide: Roughly 3/4" upwards and 1' x 2' boards...

    MDF shelf unit conundrum

Wow thanks very much everyone and so quick too! Good to know I'm not nuts for even attempting this. Sheffield Tony yes the fixings are expensive : ) I assume the shelves are made in or at least imported from Denmark hence the price. Thanks for the ideas folks. There's plenty to be digesting...

    MDF shelf unit conundrum

    Cleaning 1960s teak Scandi sideboard

The streaks/drips are on the edge of the cupboard top. The section damaged by the sponge cleaning is on the left in the third photo. There is still some evidence of the drips even where the finish has come off.

    Cleaning 1960s teak Scandi sideboard

The stains are difficult to photo but I hope these can help. My wife had a go with a scourer so not that suprising that finish came off after all. No detergent though or solvent. The finish seemed to scumble before she realised that she should stop so perhas a softer finish, some sort of wax...

    Cleaning 1960s teak Scandi sideboard

Hi all, some restoration/cleaning advice needed, I hope someone can help. We just bought a teak sideboard but need to clean some streaking/drips off. It looks like someone’s either spilt food liquid or may be some sort of finish on it in places. The drips have a soft feel to them, they can be...

    Wooden plane wedges

Okay I'm going to leave well alone I think. The plane is definitely dry, it's been in our workshop for about 4 months. There's other planes in a box so I'll check them out. Thanks all!

    Wooden plane wedges

Hi all, Thanks very much for your replies I don't know how old the plane is. It's just one of an assorted bunch of hollows and rounds I've been using. Will look at the makers marks in a while a post back. The plane is a round and uses a side wedge mount, will post a photo. I think it's...

    Wooden plane wedges

Hi I'm having a lot of difficulty using some hollows. The wedge tends to be either very loose or so tight that you can't adjust the iron. Just wondering is the wedge supposed to bear on the inside of the plane on all surfaces or just some of them like the face and back: Untitled by...

    Slightly splayed door jambs?

Don't think so. They are quite high quality linings with facing frames as well as jambs. The meeting edge of the facing has been planed back to accommodate the angle. That said I'd need to check a load of the other frames and see., Anyhoo, any other thoughts?

    Slightly splayed door jambs?

Doing some work on some double door frames and realised that the side jambs have been cut slightly splayed, about 9mm. Does anyone know why this might have been done? Thought it might be to do with leading edge type closing stuff but the doors themselves have quite pronounced leading edges...
