Sounds bizarre but often a black card reflector will define edges and show off a high gloss object. Some people who photograph glasses, bottles etc use hairspray to suppress the glare - not sure of effect on your chosen finish though.
I was given 10 liters of liquid floor wax by a tiler friend - meant for sealing sandstone and slate tiles.
It seems to work well on green wood and has saved some yew, laburnum and apple from more serious splits. Sets quickly and not too messy but no idea what it would cost to buy.

The clock looks great. I've never used friction polish but would be very tempted now; I made some small turnings around Christmas and messed around with Melamine spray - a bit of overkill but I wanted a shine.

I was lucky to get some yew log too, about 9" diameter. There is an interesting section a couple of feet long, flattened to a D shape. The log was cut through half way along this section for ease of transport.
