Made a bowl shape in scrap wood fitted to a face plate then hot glued bowl into it. Drilled it then took a slice either side with parting off tool.(where the thumb/finger go) to give me a flat to rest on bandsaw table. Hot gluing much stronger than people think also supported it with live centre...

I had spare bowling ball so cut into 4 on bands saw and turned different things. Seems a shame but now got some lovely items showing off the nice grain.

Most people give up turning because of sharpening. You don't sharpen lathe tools weekly more like hourly. I have Sorby Pro Edge which is expensive but best thing I ever bought It takes seconds to touch up once you get profile right.

Anyone own a Beall Pen Wizard I want to make parts for the accessory transformer so need to know thread on tailstock end and diameter of follower. Thanks

When I was on the ships Bahco was the name to have to save carrying lots of spanners

Dont use manmade stuff use lignum about a tenner each on ebay.

What size is the mallet head. I find a lot of stress cracks in surface of bowling balls so you have to cut a lot away.

A little tip you can use a hacksaw to cut off sides in a vice (its quite easy) To machine bowl in lathe use a rough bowl shape on either chuck or faceplate and use hot glue gun to fix in. Glue will split with screwdriver and will peal off.

Mike Waldt on you tube uses 60 and 120 ceramic belts occasionally honing with a diamond file. I find once shaped sharpening takes seconds so little n often.
