    Wanted Stanley No8 plane

Folks, I appreciate all the comments, thank you but, with respect to everyone, the thread is getting clogged with comments that aren’t really relevant here and should probably be on a separate entry. I am looking for a No8 because I have nearly all the other sizes of bailey plane and would...

    Wooden Worm Screw

That makes perfect sense, thanks for that. So I would be right in thinking if I wanted to alter the threads pitch I just increase or decrease the sizes along the longitudinal lines? Right, I think I'm sorted, it's quite simple once it's explained. Cheers Craig

    Wooden Worm Screw

I need to make a worm screw for a project but I'm not sure how to mark it out. I need the outside diameter to be 25mm with a 4tpi thread. I've looked on the web but I'm not finding anything that is easy to grasp. Can anybody help? Cheers Craig

Turning Chisel, what is it called and what is it used for?

It looks to me like the previous owner has ground on their own angle. It is neither a square scraper nor a skew but somewhere in the middle. I have never seen one like it and I can't offer a suggestion as to what it's use may be. Cheers Craig

    Pen mandrel support

Yes I agree there are lots of differences between kits, I have 3 different sets of bushes for some kits due to compatibility issues and it can be very time consuming fiddling with things to get it all to work. I have bought a simple mandrel saver and will see how that goes before I fork out on...

    My first end grain vase

How are you mounting the steady on your lathe bed? I have the same lathe so it would be handy to know. Cheers Craig

    Pen mandrel support

And how do you find that mandrel Bob? How true does it turn? It looks a very well thought out piece of kit, might get one myself.

I have a Nova DVR and I love it, really nice machine. I'm sure the Comet will be of similar quality. Enjoy turning.

I need some help with a lump

Personally I would run the cut side over a planer and make it flat. Then I'd mount that side on the headstock and turn the usual chuck dovetail in the round (bottom) end. Then I'd reverse it and smooth out the natural void into a bowl. You'd have a nice natural look on the outside but an...

    Pen mandrel support

Yes I understand a drawbar now, there is a good YouTube video on it. I turned a couple of pens this morning and took some time to check if the blank ends were square, alignment was correct (or as correct as I can make it), there wasn't too much pressure on the mandrel etc. Everything seemed as...

    which turning chisels????

Personally I have all different types, I started with a set of Record chisels, I have Crown, Sorby, Axminster and Marples. But the ones I keep coming back to are the bowl gouges I bought from Craft Supplies around 20 years ago (they have "The Home of Good Woodturning" on the handles) I think...

How to remove posts from concrete

Could you not just bore out the stump with a decent sized drill bit? It might take a while but all you'd need to do then is give it a clean out with a chisel or cold chisel? That's probably what I'd try.
