My first post - do I need to go shopping yet?

Hold the router switch down with a cable tie. (I'm presuming the router table has an NVR switch.)

    Which cheap bench drill

Bought a cheapo Silverline drill press from Amazon 2 years ago. It's heavy, sturdy and quiet, and it's never let me down. I even built a wee drill press table for it with a simple pivot fence with stop blocks held in place by spring clamps. Works a treat.

    Glue Brushes

I use a silicone pastry brush, works a treat and is dead easy to clean. Just leave it to dry and the dried glue breaks off in your hand. OK, every now and then you'll lose a bristle or two in the process, but mine is still going strong after 18 months of sporadic use...

    Lidl (Parkside) Belt Sander

Got one of these the last time they were on offer as I'd never had one and wanted to see how useful it would be. Used pretty regularly since then, never let me down. Got it bolted upside down to my bench and it's as solid as can be. Pretty noisy in operation though. Just went and bought the...

Rigger gloves on sale aat Axminster

My local hardware shop sells rigger gloves for 89p a pair. Even the shop assistant had to go over and double-check the price. :D I have plenty. ;-) Seriously though, how can they sell them for such low prices? Are little Chinese boys and girls blistering their hands making gloves that save our...

    LIDL Sliding Mitre Saw

Thanks baldpate, for the info and time you've taken. Much appreciated. =D> Looks like it's best to look elsewhere then. 1mm play is too much to accept.

    LIDL Sliding Mitre Saw

Thanks for the responses guys - well, the constructive ones at least. ;-) Looks like I'm gonna have to pop along to the shop next Monday and see if they've got one on display so I can have a proper hands-on to see how sturdy it really is. If it doesn't have reliable trenching functionality it...

New series of NYW on Shed

They showed the entire series on Christmas Day, 2011. I know, because I recorded them all! If I ever see that 8-sided poker table again . . .

    LIDL Sliding Mitre Saw

Anyone got one of these they can give advice on? http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/SID-F4D21 ... il&id=1706 Is it sturdy and reliable enough? Can it be used for trenching? Any other advice apart from 'buy cheap, buy twice'?

    New Table saw

I agree, and that's a very fair point. However, for the likes of me living way on the north coast of Scotland, second hand sales are very, very rare, and any eBay listings are collect only, usually in Cheshire or somewhere equally distant. Might as well be Timbuktu. :( So for some of us...

    New Table saw

Oof, only £119 on Tesco Direct! That's got to be worth consideration. . . Would be interested in hearing comment on the solidity/straightness of the rip fence and mitre guide slot and the ease of depth control of the blade. Plus, how easy is it to remove and replace the blade guard and riving...

Sharpening. I know its controversial but......

Damn. Why didn't I think of that! Ah well, I know what I'm doing in the morning now! Cheers. :D Edit: Why no pics in the quote? Meh.

    Belt sander

Well, I went and bought the Parkside Belt Sander today. On first impressions it does feel a bit 'plasticky' and it's certainly noisy enough to require ear defenders, especially in my poky wee 10' x 8' shed. On a test piece it sanded the face of a rough-sawn unplaned 100 x 22 x 600 board to...

    Belt sander

Thinking about a belt sander myself, and I notice that the Parkside belt sander is to be available again in Lidls from next Thursday (27-09-12): http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl ... _34780.htm I know you said your 'old one' died, but how old was it, and would you say it's worth a shot...
