Hi there, quick question. Where should the water bar in a door cill go in relation to the rebate and seal on the jambs? Hard up against the rebate? Or should it be stepped back a little behind the seals? Thanks.

Basically the rebate formed in brickwork to take a sash window or door, so that the frame sits behind the front course of bricks. At least that's what it's called in these parts ...

I need to make a door frame to go in a traditional check reveal and am wondering about what the standard dimensions would be. I have allowed 50mm for the width of frame that is visible, I'm wondering how much more is generally added for the rebate. Im thinking another 50mm, is that about right...

You're right about that for sure, but stuck with them now I'm afraid ... !

Turns out to be pretty straightforward. Building Control happy for us to make up the check reveal using the cavity closers, or to do a block work return and simply foam up to the cavity closer or block work to hold them in place.

I don’t know re building control, I assumed there would be a way, are you saying that it’s no longer possible to fit box sash’s to new buildings because the regs won’t allow? That would be sad 😞

Choice is simply an aesthetic one, it’s an old house and all existing windows are box sash and I want them to match …

Hi there I'm trying to figure out you fit box sash windows into new cavity walls—in particularly walls built under the new regs which have a 150mm cavity. Excuse my ignorance about this. Also please excuse by builders ignorance—he doesn't want to fit sash windows anyway (waste of money mate!)...

I know, it was tongue in cheek, hence the qualification after, however to avoid confusion I have removed that requirement!

I need a couple of new timber sash windows for my extension, supply only. They need to: Meet current building regs (obvs) Have reasonable lead time (six weeks or less) Anyone here interested, or can you recommend a good supplier? I'm in Surrey. Thanks Marcus
