    Working with Hardwood vs Softwood

James, I am definately no expert but I think you'll find that router speed is also linked to router size, in particular the diameter of the cutter. If my memory is correct larger diameter equals slower speed. If you go on one of the router cutter manufacturers web sites you should find some...

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhh

What can I say, it's terrible, but in keeping with the general moronic standard of so much TV these days. It's all about catering for the masses, or peasants as I call them  (Advertising drives it all, and advertising is related to viewing figures, so quality and taste doesn't come into...

If you watched the US Formula 1 Grand Prix...

Agree Roger, the final straw for me was the Liberty Media take over. From now on the whole event is going to be about numbers and advertising revenue and getting as many mug punters as possible to pay at the gate and wave like monkeys when the camera swings onto them.

    ...........

Part of the problem is the way the 'lead' is generated. First you get the phone calls, (as you found these just keep comming) why :?: because the person on the phone is also on commission providing he can get you to say 'yes' to a sales visit. If you do say 'yes' he passes it on to the sales...

    Uni Education and student loans

I am horrified at how pretty much any further education establishment can now call itself a 'unniversity. There are about 450 so called unniversities in the UK now and only 24 of them are 'proper' unniversities. These are known as 'The Russel Group' all the rest are either the lower echelons...

    keyless car theft

As someone who does IT in real life what do you think about all the 'talking heads' who appear on TV etc. whenever there is a major 'hacking' scandal. Maybe I'm old but I get the distinct impression that the 'good guys' are loosing the battle against the hackers and every day that passes makes...

    Way OT: Family Investment Companies

I would certainly agree with that statement. It seems to me that with the ever increasing population the government (Whichever party they are) keeps bearing down on anyone who has worked hard and saved. These days if you've been able (through hard work and modest living) to accumulate some...

    Wood to polystyrene panel adhesive.

Thanks everyone, MikeG it's mainly for small stuff, I wanted to make a smallish box and line it with polystyrene sheet (of which I have lots !) and put some stuff which the label says 'Do not store below 5 C' some stuff I use in the garden (e,g, Compost maker from Maxicrop and Tomorite) Some...

    Wood to polystyrene panel adhesive.

What would you use to join some wood to a polystyrene panel (The kind of thing which all electrical goodies come in now-a-days) Have tried some glues I had in the workshop, not had much success so far. So thought that the combined knowledge of all the 'maestros' on here would be able to help...

    Bloody Parcelfarce strikes again

I am in Suffolk as well and like you I try not to worry about it. Many years ago someone a lot brighter than me said look at how much you can influence the other party. If for whatever reason you might have some influence then complain and shout, if (as often the case these days) you have no...

    Cost of boiler service

I wondered about that as well. Our service guy comes once a year and he always changes the nozzle and it's a small cost item so I'm happy for him to do it especially after your explanation above.

    Why do they do this???

Phil - It's the times we live in. People will accept any old rubbish and to many the defect you've highlighted they wouldn't even know what was wrong. As mentioned above return it to wherever you bought it and if you have time enclose a letter saying 'globilisation' is fine but when it costs you...

    Books....proof positive of dumbing down!

The other big advantage people had in those days was that decent quality hardwoods were readily available for amateur and professional woodworkers. As someone who does woodwork for a hobby I can still get local hardwoods but the price is staggering. Tropical stuff is virtually unobtainable.

Poplar - Rubbish timber, what uses have you found for it ?

Thanks Steve, so general opinion says don't use outdoors. so I won't :) Need an offcut bin (on wheels) so that will likely be the first use for it. There's quite a lot so other things will be made in due course. Once again, appreciate all your thoughts.
